We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It started shortly after I was diagnosed with Lupus which is an Autoimmune Disease. After being diagnosed i gained over 40lbs and fell into a deep depression. I was in a really dark place in my life and knew I needed to change. I became super passionate with health and wellness. I always had the mindset to help others and I started to make it my goal to help others that was going through what I was going through. I want to help motivate and inspire as many women as possible to start taking their mental and physical health more serious.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is not worrying about others and whether or not they will support what I’m doing. I do this with passion and believe I add real value to peoples lives and that makes me proud. I got to where I am at business wise by doing a lot of research, studying and really just believing in what I am doing. If you don’t believe in what you are doing you are not going to succeed. Starting any business is not easy and you will face many challenges as I did but guess what these challenges only made me more wiser and more motivated to succeed in business. Many lessons I have learned is to research, research and more research. When it comes to owning and running a business there are a lot of trail and errors which are learning lessons, ok that didn’t work so now I’m going to try it another way and that’s how I will grow in my business. I want the world to know that Shape It Up Sis is not just about fitness. It’s about helping women overcome life’s challenges. It’s about helping women physically and mentally. Mental illness is real, believe me I know. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. My life challenges is what inspired my brand and I’m on a mission to helping women all over the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a very laid back chill person so we won’t be hanging in my neighborhood bars lol. The first day or two we probably will just chill. I like walking the Ben Franklin bridge so we probably would do that and explore center city landmarks than grab a bite to eat. I’m a big foodie so we probably would grab something to eat from one of my favorite spots like Vegan-ish, Nourish Philly, Naked Lunch, just to name a few. The next couple days we would hit up the night scene in old city, there are a few nice lounges I like, like Blue Martini, The Reef and Mei Mei Philadelphia which all also have amazing food. We will also hit up the movies theater and see a movie or two. I also like playing card games so we will chill in the house sip some wine and play a few games and have girl talk

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to take the time out to thank everyone within the Shape It Up Sis community. It’s because of you guys that I continue to get up everyday with a purpose. You guys also keep me motivated. I hope we can continue to grow, uplift, inspire and motivate each other. I love you guys
