We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Blum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancy, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Success to me is having the courage to persevere, to continue working to follow one’s own inner guide, and ultimately creating a lifetime body of work consistent with one’s personal ideals. Having that work resonate with others is validating and reaffirming.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My artwork can be described as realistic with an abstract sensibility. I create colorful, energetic paintings and drawings, often depicting people. These are sometimes commissioned portraits or abstracted, often contemplative paintings. I love painting pets and paint many dog portrait commissions. I also enjoy painting still lifes, often large, colorful loose paintings of flowers. In every painting I try to imbue the art with a sense of poetry and the mystery of life. I’ve given drawing and painting workshops in Asheville, NC and Atlanta and my artwork is in public and private collections including Netflix, Marvel Studios, and Fulton County, GA. I love working on projects with interior decorators, film set designers and clients and am available for custom work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great things to see and do in Atlanta! Of course I’d take guests to the art districts and historical areas here. And for food, a fun area to explore is Buford Highway where we have so many fantastic international cuisines to try.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to recognize the Atlanta Artists Center — a great resource for the artist community here. It’s a place to meet other artists, show your work, and draw in sketch groups. It’s also a great place to find artwork to purchase at reasonable prices. I joined this supportive organization when I returned to art after many years of working in business.
