We had the good fortune of connecting with TWIO and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TWIO, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Even though I’m a graphic designer, I work in one of the biggest, most complex, aggressive industries in the world – the music industry. In recent years, the number of designers has increased dramatically in proportion to the amount of music released in the world. Competition forces us to approach the matter not only professionally, but also creatively, since design is, first of all, an art. It is necessary to constantly come up with something, maintain cooperation with various people, be fast and stress-resistant. In addition, it is worth remembering your own style. The style of your art and the style of your work. I believe this is the secret to the success of a good designer. You should have your own style, ideas, approach to business!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been doing graphic design for musicians for 2.5 years. I create a complete graphics package for them: posters, flyers, covers, banners, merch and more. During my career, I have worked with artists such as Blocboy JB, Yung Bans, Blac Chyna and many more. I also worked for 1.5 years as a designer for Chicago DJ Shon (Famous Dex tour DJ), creating work for big and emerging artists from all over the world who are hosted on sites like LiveMixtapes.com and many more. In addition, I constantly collaborate with other designers, create concepts. I always approach the matter with awareness, I think about each work for a long time, I try to do something interesting. I combine the ability to draw and work in graphic editors, create unique physical textures from improvised means and use them in my work. Even though I’ve come a long way, I don’t pay attention to my media, I focus on my work more than my subscribers. You will not find articles about me, they don’t mention me anywhere, it doesn’t matter to me.
This is probably the decisive factor in my work. Now I work with a narrow circle of regular clients, or with people who have been advised by their friends. It is difficult, but in this way I control my time, concentrate on each work.
The industry does not tolerate laziness. You must work every day. It doesn’t matter what, where and for what purpose: I create something every day, sometimes just to have it on my computer and I look at it.
For people who read this, I want to remind you that graphics for music are still important. Covers, videos, the design of your advertising banners, merch design – all this plays a role in your recognition and the success of your music.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t think the place matters at all. People make the mood, create the atmosphere for you. This is how it always happens! I think that with friends I would visit some places with beautiful nature, where you can relax, drink tea, sit by the fire. In quiet places, inspiration, ideas and thoughts often wake up. But I repeat, the main thing is that these are those who are nearby – friends and relatives. People do everything!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started out designing for underground & upcoming artists. I continue to work with them to this day. In general, I am grateful to all the people who love music, the artists who release it. I am grateful to my family and friends for their interest and support. It’s all people, it’s people who tell you to be creative. I love people.
