We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebeckah Ruth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebeckah, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have been in the fashion industry now for 17 years. First as a model, then wardrobe stylist and now a fashion consultant. In that time, I noticed that there didn’t seem to be a sense of community within the fashion industry. It’s understandable since the industry can be very competitive and cut-throat. I felt, however, that creatives should have a place to go where they can find a genuine and supportive community. That led me to starting Worthy back in 2019.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Worthy the Fashion Meetup is for fashion creatives. It was created with the idea of having a place where fashion creatives can go to find community, mentorship and support. We love to meet creatives where they are in their careers and help develop them as they move forward in their projects.

I always knew I wanted Worthy to be a global nonprofit, but I didn’t expect to be represented in 9 countries after only 2 years. So, I have to say that I most proud of that, but I am also proud that Worthy is bringing people together who otherwise may have never had that opportunity. It is inspiring to watch friendships and business relationships flourish because of Worthy.

When I first started Worthy, we were supposed to meet in person, however, the pandemic changed all of that. I created Worthy’s virtual platform, which made it possible for us to reach more people in other countries. I think the biggest thing with business is being able to shift. Life and business change constantly, so you have to be able to merge your vision with reality and keep moving along.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in an interesting area because we have nature, beach and also not too far from some bigger cities. So if we have a whole week, I would probably start with dinner at a local restaurant. I live in an area with a lot of history, so I feel like it’s important to visit local historical sights. I would then hop in the car and head up to Washington DC. I love DC because I’m a foodie and there are so many amazing places to eat up there! Of course, you have to visit the monuments like the Washington Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. As far as neighborhoods in DC, I am a fan of Georgetown!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love opportunities to shout out my mentor, Diego Minnis. When I first started my business 12 years ago, I really had no idea what I was doing. All I knew was that I loved fashion and I felt like I was pretty decent at it. Diego taught me how to turn a love for fashion into a business and a system. I learned about fashion production, personal styling and how to have positive relationships within the fashion industry.

I want to also recognize the Worthy community. Since starting Worthy, I have connected with creatives in 9 countries at this point. Through that, I have made some incredible friendships and am looking forward to future partnerships and collaborations. I love to see creatives within the Worthy community come together. They inspire me.
