We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Atkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?

I am born and raised in East Atlanta, as well as my family. My family is big on support and that is a huge part of who I am. My family truly supported any idea I had growing up, which is the main reason I feel I can do anything I put my mind to. My parents molded my mindset into thinking anything is attainable which is a major part of life.

When I became an instructor, I realized everyone doesn’t have the same support I have or any. I started becoming a mentor to  mu students so I could be a person that shows them the sky is the limit. I want everyone to see hear my stories and get inspired. I want everyone around me to know that their dreams are possible and that someone is rooting for them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I am a Professional Makeup Artist, Brow Artist, and Instructor, teaching women how to make 6 figures in the brow industry with techniques in tinting and microshading. I’m also the Founder and CEO of C. Lauren Cosmetics, a Luxury Brow Cosmetic product line.

Our slogan is “ the final brow destination”, we focus on everything brows, from brow pencils, pomade, brow tint, microshading products such as PMU machines, pigment, mapping string, and more. All of which can be purchased online at www.claurencosmetics.com.

I started my journey pursuing makeup professionally when I attended Tennessee State University. During my four years, I remained booked servicing students as well as locals in my dorm room. This blows my mind but I remember having 110 appointments homecoming week in 2016.

Within that same year, I had my first sold-out makeup class in my campus apartment. I taught myself brow tinting my senior year of college as well as micro shading a month after graduating. I never dreamed that it would change my life tremendously. If I’d never taken that leap of faith, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

My journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing. In 2019, I met and hung out with the wrong crowd and I lost myself.

I lost my dreams, aspirations, and goals, and it cost me everything. The following year, I decided to move back home to Atlanta, for a fresh start. I never could have imagined what happened next. We all were hit with the news of COVID and in March 2020, I found out I was pregnant the day after the mandated quarantine.

After receiving the news of becoming a mommy, I was excited but it was overshadowed by knowing that I would be parenting alone. My pregnancy propelled me to rebrand my business and my baby motivates me to strive for greatness every single day.

I am most proud of my brow academy, it is truly one of my biggest accomplishments. I have taught over 2,500 classes and mentored hundreds of women. Being a positive light to many women has truly blessed me. I am so thankful to be chosen to lead in that area.

As of now, I only offer one on one classes for brow tinting and microshading but this year I am super excited to announce that I will also provide online classes as well.

The one thing that will set me and my company apart from the others is that I put my heart into everything that I do. Most businesses do things just for the money, but I do it to make a difference. I want women to know they can do anything, and mostly, that they can bounce back from anything. I love to inspire my supporters by sharing my testimonies to let them know that if I can overcome these obstacles, they can too.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite places to eat is Toast on Lennox & Breakfast at Barneys. I love brunch so we would go to different lounges that have brunch like Suite Lounge. I would definitely visit the Avalon, that is my new favorite place. We would hang out at Colony Square. I also want to try Steak Market for dinner. I love food so all of my places involve eating.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shout out to my both my parents but especially my mother. She always encouraged me to be the best that I can be, to follow my dreams, but left hers behind to raise me. My mother is owner of Story of Wellness. She is a published author and herbalist. She sells capsules and herbal teas targeted for specific health issues on her site thestoryofwellness.com. I am extremely proud of her for picking back up and going after her desires.
