We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystol Cotton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystol, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my business was I had all these friends who were starting businesses and were being creative and I really admired that. It started making me think about what it was that I was passionate about, what was I good at, and just figure out what my overall purpose was.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am originally from Chicago, but joined the military back in 2008. I am still currently on active duty and I really believe my life experiences, world travels, and work ethic have helped me succeed in my military career along with helping me find my passion. There are many things in my life I am proud of, but the thing I am most proud of is stepping out on faith and starting my podcast. My podcast was easy to start once the nerves were gone, but I’ll definitely say the road to gain the life experience was definitely not a straight path. Through the twists and turns along this path I think staying the course and therapy have definitely attributed to me being able to overcome the fear of failure.
For the lessons I’ve learned I’ve definitely realized having faith is key, let go of any fears and just do it! The Kiki’ing with CoCo Podcast is weekly and you will get your feel of a girls hang out session. We not only kiki about life, but relationships, which is something everyone can relate to.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta has so many things to offer and the food is definitely A1.
Places to eat: Flying Biscuit Cafe, Breakfast at Barneys, Negril ATL, Slutty Vegan, Spondivits, Cirque Blue Seafood House, Sivas Hookah Lounge, and Kevin Rathbun Steak.
Places to visit: Skyview Atlanta, Trap Museum, Gurl Mobb Museum, The Roof Skyline Park, Any Festival of your Choice
Places to drink: Harold’s Chicken, REVERB by Hardrock
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My number one supporter has absolutely been my mom, she supports every thing I do, and encourages me to take those leaps of faith. As I mentioned before I have friends who have started businesses and who have found their creative spaces that really encouraged me to look at myself and move forward with the podcast.
