We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Urquhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kris, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor my success is staying to true to who I am. The modeling industry is a tough industry where sometimes losing your identity is very easy to do when you want to get notice. When I started in the industry, I constantly reminded myself that being enough would be more than enough. When I was younger, my parents allowed for me to live in my creative lane at an early age. They encouraged me to explore it and to fall in love with the process. The success I have now is because I stuck to my values and morals. I’m edgy but feminine with a touch of vulnerability when needed but add that together and it me completely. It’s my style, it’s my personality, and it’s my brand. It’s Kris Jae’.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most proud of the vulnerable shoot I take during photoshoots. The ones that showcase that extra big smile or the ones that show the imperfections of scars and blemishes. It took a lot of years to get to this place in modeling career. I have been told “No” so many times but those “No’s ” were necessary. When I was younger, I wanted every modeling gig or opportunity to fit in and to get my name out to people. Now, I know the opportunities that come to me are the ones that are for me only. The journey has been hard and long but the it’s mines. My brand is everything modeling because I love it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love being from Philly! If my friends were coming town for the weekend our first snack spot would be Insomnia Cookies ! It’s kind of our staple as friends to have girl talk over cookies. Dinner that night would be at Buddakan and then we would go to Vango to enjoy the rest of night. For Brunch the next day, we would go to Sabrina’s Cafe as it’s one of my favorite places. We would spend the day downtown then move to South Street to take pictures of murals. Dinner would be at a Sushi spot or Mexican place depending on how we feel ( food depends on the mood and music vibes). We would end the night at a karaoke place because we love music and love to have a good time. We are really simple to us spending time together with our favorite things is important. We would end the weekend with a trip to the movies and arcade because we are big kids at heart.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To the first lady to give me a pair of heels,

Thank you! I was just a little girl with kitten heels but I knew that I wanted to match like you and my grandmother. You have no idea how much that changed my world. I knew I loved clothes and play dress up but those heels open my heart to another level.
