We had the good fortune of connecting with Marquis Lyles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marquis, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be one of a “Small Town Hero.” I want people to remember me for being courageous, someone who smashes every goal, someone who empowered the people around me, someone who was willing to go above and beyond to see not only myself but others succeed, a giver, a helper, someone who cares about the community, someone who strives for economic growth in the black community, someone who overcame adversity on every level, someone who never gave up, and someone who is a great leader! I don’t want just one specific thing to define me or my legacy. I want my legacy to be define by that of genuine love and respect from everyone I encounter along my journey of life.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business name is Bean World! It is a clothing brand that stands for black, empowered, ambitious, and notorious that’s mission is to take the world by storm. Clothing is just the start of the many things that will fall under the Bean World umbrella. What sets me apart from others is my brand is about growth and positivity surrounding the black community. I’m proud of the connections I have made along the journey and I’m excited about the business opportunities that my business will open doors to for not only me but my family and close friends. I got to where I am today in business by overcoming fears and self doubt, staying consistent, dedicated, focused, and very discipline. It was not easy but I overcame every challenge and obstacle by believing in myself and my dream. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is failure equals success, there is no short cuts and it takes falling to your lowest points sometimes to come back better each time. I want the world to know that its only the beginning for me and my brand which neither has hit anywhere close their peak so be ready for what’s to come!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my huge support system. I would have to first recognize my grandmother who raised me and made me the man I am today. My wife, kids, mother, step father, brothers and sister, friends. They all deserve a shout out because they push me through the tough times and always have had my back from the beginning in whatever I did. Also Dre Terry aka Drizzy Beano (RIP) who my brand is inspired by and who inspired me to be part of who I am today.
