Meet Selena Figueroa | Communications Officer & Make-Up Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Selena Figueroa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I got into makeup back in 2009/2010 when I became a freshman in high school. I used to do my own makeup almost every day just for school. I felt really good about it, because I taught my own self how to do it. I gradually started doing makeup on others starting my senior year of high school. I didn’t think much of it at the time. I just wanted others to look good, so they can feel good! As the years go by, I’m practicing on myself and others, I was improving, building up my makeup supply, and more & more people wanted me to do their makeup. By 2021, I decided to make it official. I am a mother of a beautiful son, and I am a full time 911 dispatcher. I started my business because not only was it something that I enjoyed doing, it was also another way to earn income.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As I mentioned before I am a full time Communications Officer. Some may refer it to as a 911 Dispatcher, but there is so much more to it than just dispatching. I have been in this career for 3 years. I got into it after I gave birth to my only child because I wasnt working during that time, and was offered a position. All of my prior jobs consisted of customer service. I love to interact with other people. I always worked in customer service because I enjoy helping others. Customer service is big for me, because I feel like everyone should receive great service wherever they go. I started working at the age of 16, so I have a lot of experience in customer service. I have dealt with my share of negativity, but it has helped me get to where I am and who I am today.

I didn’t start my business for the money. I started my business for the people. I want to be able to use my talent and creativity by doing makeup on others so that they can look and feel good.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Those who know me, knows it doesn’t take much for me to have a good time. I am a very simple person who’s always down for an adventure. Just put me around the right people, and we can have a good time anywhere. It all depends on the occasion. I like visiting different attractions like Stone Mountain or the Kennesaw Mountain for a good exercise. I enjoy being outdoors to get a breath of fresh air so Piedmont Park is also a good place to check out. I love to eat! The city has so much to choose from, but I can always go for some chicken wings or Jamaican food. The strip clubs or lounges have good wings, where we can enjoy drinks and have some entertainment as well. There is so much more to do in the city, and I’m always down for whatever!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so thankful for any and everybody who has helped me get this far. I have had a lot of support from both my family and friends. I have people who genuinely want my business to be successful and they know who they are. Most importantly I owe everything to God!
