We had the good fortune of connecting with Sillyass Lala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sillyass, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The scary “risk”. I suffer from anxiety. Most of my life everything seemed like a scary risk. As of lately as I grow and heal I can see that “risks” are necessary for growth. It’s only called a “risk” because we cannot for sure calculate the outcome. I have saw so much more growth within myself while taking more risk. I am a mother of 6 risking being ridiculed and “burned at the stake” by society for exploring and embracing my own body and sexuality. I risked everything and received so much backlash. Understanding that peoples perception of me told a story of who they were and had nothing to do with me and my truth. The risky twerking female rapper. I will continue to risk it all to grow and feed my souls life experience. I knew I was growing when I understood that it’s worth every risk and butterfly when you are chasing your dreams. I hope my risk on music will continue to feed my spirit. How can I break these generational curses without taking a risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I wrote my first rap at about age 8. I use to rap along to Master p and Mia X with my eldest brother. I remember what I said vividly til this day. I’ve always had a love for music, but especially dancing. I thought I’d grow up and be a ballerina. I decided to twerk and rap instead.(it’s in my dna) Music and dance are so freeing. They both reflect and express the frequencies that we hold within. Music is love. Music is pain. Music is time travel. Music is risky. Music is therapeutic. What I would like to represent as an artist is true emotional freedom, true physical freedom. The woman’s body is weaponized against her before she has the opportunity to love and appreciate it. My goal is to thrive in my sexuality and not to be condemned by it. Over policing women leads to a stronger rape culture that further blames women for others lack of self control. I decided to be the sacrifice and take the risk of expressing myself truly and standing up for what I believe in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I won’t lie like I’m not a homebody. I am a mother of 6 so I do stay home often or just go to my mom’s. There are a few places in Atlanta that I would love to check out that I have yet to check out. Let’s see. I’d love to try slutty vegan. (I love the dirty name ) I’d also like to try the sugar factory ( I know so basic, but I’ve never been) To be honest I’m open to trying all the good food restaurants here. I’d like to try all of the shopping malls when I get the money to go crazy shopping! I love nature so nature walks and trails definitely will be in the list of adventure, but mostly great food tho.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Success is such a perception based reality. Success can be measured and viewed in many ways. I am greatly appreciative to my support system. My mother, my sister, my kids father, my childhood friend, most of my entire family, as well as my extended Instagram family. They have all played a part in my growth and “success “. It has been many days and times that I felt like a failure,I felt I was wasting my time, but my support system made sure to tell me to keep going. They believe in me and my dreams. I have never felt more successful. Shoutout to my loved ones.
