Meet Courtney Taylor | Salon Owner & Licensed Cosmetology Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my business/career has taught me is to go at my own pace and be consistent, believe in what others may think is impossible, celebrate small & big victories, show gratitude, and remain humble.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a licensed Cosmetologist and Educator. The name of my Business is Blaque Tresses Hair Care. I specialize in natural hair and believe in Educating my clients on maintaining and embracing their lustrous tresses.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t too hard, but like any other business,
Entrepreneurship can sometimes come with its challenges. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way are, You have to work
harder than you would at a regular job, you have to have balance in your life, don’t overdue it, because you will pay for it physically and mentally, and most of all be proud of yourself, you’re really doing this!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my top favorites in the area for food: Fellini’s pizza, Mary Macs Tea Room, Monterrey Mexican Restaurant and if you love Barbeque D&D BBQ or Sweet Auburns! and hanging out Boogaloo and The Garden Room depending on what you’re in a mood for, definitely try an escape room experience, scroll through little five points and definitely check out Skyline Park!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I most definitely would like to (THANK GOD BECAUSE WITHOUT HIM, none of this would be possible, I’m definitely grateful for the journey) I’d also like to dedicate my shoutout to an amazing woman by the name of Anghi Colin! She was one of my instructors while in beauty college and welcomed me into her salon with open arms after becoming licensed. She told me that in 3 years I would become a Salon Owner and i told her I wouldn’t be ready. Well fast forward, within those 3 years I became not only a salon owner but completed the licensed cosmetology educator program and began teaching as well! Did I mention she left me salon equipment which was everything that I needed to get my first salon started! She believed in me, taught me and encouraged me, & for that I am forever grateful. I’d also like to send a huge shout out to my loyal clients, there is no Blaque TressesHair Care Salon without them. Last but definitely not least, to my DH Thank You!
