We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacey Falk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacey, why did you pursue a creative career?
Because I’m adorable! I have a great ass and a hat. Lol I’m just kidding. Actually I’m not kidding….uh yes I am. I pursued a career in the arts because it was my destiny. Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a clown and have my own circus. My father and I still laugh about it. I ate, slept, and drank clowns and the circus. And as I grew, that’s what I became–an entertainer, a producer, i.e. a clown that has his own circus. My father and I laugh because when I was seven years old, I wanted to start my own circus. So at seven years old, I wrote up contracts and went to the kids in our neighborhood and contracted them to be in my circus. That’s pretty slick for a seven-year-old! To be an artist was my destiny. You know, some would say that this world, with all its troubles and woes, is a sinking ship that you can’t escape. As an artist, its my job to ease the suffering of its passengers, if only for a moment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This question is quite long, but I’m eager to answer lol. What sets me apart from others is that there is no one like me and I’m the only one that can do what I do. I wrap myself in the blanket of being unique and its a blanket that keeps me warm and free from insecurity and doubt. I am an employed comedian, jazz singer, manager, agent, and producer of music, stage, and film. After 22 years in the music industry, I am still the only African American booking agent in jazz. I am proud of that fact, but also disgusted by it. I wish that more young African Americans would get involved in the administrative realm of the music industry. The handling, administration, distribution, and curation of art is just as important as creating art. I got to where I am because of the teachings of my parents and mentors and divine intervention. There universal laws that we put in motion whether we know it or not. The law of attraction, the law of detachment, and other universal laws are real! I knew what I wanted, I set my goal, I focused on it, and when I received instruction, I acted. I truly believed and God sent me the right people at the right time and the right doors always opened. Yes, I was told “No,” but I learned that sometimes a “No” doesn’t mean “Never,” it means not right now. Remember this, God will never set you up to fail! Who needs a failure? What good is a loser? Yes you may lose sometimes, but if you learn the lesson, regroup, and charge into battle again with the knowledge, you will win. I’m a living witness! The journey has not been easy, no journey is, but it has been exciting! And even in times of famine, quite bountiful. “What are you talking about, Jacey? You sound crazy as hell. Are you a fool?” said in my black people voice. No, babe, I’ll explain: When things weren’t going so well (and, trust me, there were times when things weren’t going well at ALLL! There were times when I was ready to turn tricks for beer money– and I don’t mean good beer, I mean the cheapest of malt liquors), I prayed and I asked God to send me the lessons, people, and situations that would cause my advancement. Sometimes they would instantly appear, and sometimes their manifestation took a while. But in the midst of the storm, I was never hungry, and I was never without. And I found myself inundated with a bounty of connections, lessons, and wonderful situations. that moved me from the mundane to the sublime. Now, do you understand? I knew you would lol. I want the world to know that Jacey Falk and his music, comedy, and productions are quality. They are inspired by love and given to the masses with love. Like I said before, my job is to ease the suffering of the passengers, even if only for a moment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First of all, at the present, my best friend wouldn’t come to visit! The Grip (COVID-19) is real! And if he did take leave of his senses and come and visit, his ass wouldn’t get in my front door! But if we were living in a Grip-free world and masks were a thing of the past, I love the Painted Duck. It’s like a fun center/arcade for grown-ups. They have fantastic food and great duck pin bowling! It’s almost like a Chuck E. Cheese made love to a New York boite and had a baby lol. The Northside Tavern is always fun on a Sunday or Monday. They’ve got a great Blues Jam Session! You can see asses jiggling and bellies wiggling! The music at the Northside is fantastic! The music was so hot one night, a man jumped out of his wheelchair, did a little dance, took two steps, and fell flat on his face. He was cool. I bought him a beer…that’s all he really wanted. Even though it’s hotter than Satan’s toenails, I would make a trip to the Botanical Gardens. I would go in the evening when its cool though. My people and I don’t do well with heat. Them cotton picking days are over. I will not pay to have the sun beat down on me! No thanks! Even though I have dainty ankles and a rapier wit, I’m still a 300lbs black man and I love good food. So if my best friend came to town, I would most likely make a stop at the following restaurants: the legendary Pascal’s, Fontaine’s Oyster House, the Highland Tap, Mary Mac’s Tea Room, Old Brick Pit BBQ, Apres Diem, Daddy D’z BBQ, and Dugan’s Bar for wings, big drinks, and the floor show!
