We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Arshley Emile and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Arshley, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learn in my business is that your real competition is yourself. There’s no need to compare yourself to others, especially those in your same field. We are all unique and bring something to our field that no one else can. I’ve made a commitment to myself that I will focus on my journey and my journey alone. The talent, skills and experience will make room for growth and abundance. Another lesson I’ve learn is that one should be deliberately slow. Don’t rush the process. If possible, stay there as long as you can because that’s where the magic happens, where growth lives and ultimately that’s where you learn how to better navigate your business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a filmmaker based out of Atlanta and I get to tell stories for living that inspires and encourages our generation and future generations to heal, grow and love. My proudest moment would be sitting down with Ambassador Andy Young in his living talking about art and his experiences with MLK. Anyone that knows me knows that Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights movement inspired me to be who I am today. So to sit there and go on this memory joyride with Ambassador Andy Young was an absolute honor and a moment in my career that I will I always cherish.

In regards to how I got to where I am today, long story short, I’ve always loved film and photography. But I was too afraid to ever consider taking it to the next level. It wasn’t until my last year in grad school where I decided to create a documentary detailing my research findings on racism in America. From that moment on I realized that I didn’t want a career in education. I knew my path was film. Overtime, the love and desire grew to the point where I decided that I would retire from my position. It wasn’t easy to make that decision because of financial security but I knew in my heart that I needed to jump and trust God. I haven’t looked back since.

I don’t care for the world to know about me. I rather the world know the stories of the people I film. I want people to be inspired and encouraged by their stories. I want to people to see God in their stories in hopes that they will find peace, healing and direction.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is the city that I feel is rich in food and in culture. Whenever I have family in town I always make sure we get some wings from LT’s Wings. In my opinion it’s one of the best in the city. But if you’re more into brunch there’s honestly too many to select from but I would highly recommend Breakfast at Barney’s. As far as drinks, I’m a beer connoisseur and one of my favorite places to grab a drink is at Monday Night Garage.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Yeshua! Without Him I wouldn’t be here. Also, shoutout to the love of my life Stephania Emile. Lastly, shoutout to my kids Zion, Micah and Brooklyn. Love you all.
