We had the good fortune of connecting with Antoinette Blocker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Antoinette, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic or creative career because it allows me to express myself without having to say a word. It allows me to express my personality while making others feel beautiful and their best self possible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a makeup/lash artist, who is the main source to helping clients feel beautiful in their own skin and boosting one’s confidence. What sets me apart from others is my creativity and my determination to stay up on the latest trends, being knowledgeable for my customers and just being truthful and my self. Originality is key. What I’m most proud about is how far I’ve come and where I’m headed. I seen a vision and I’m making that vision a reality. I got to where I am today by believing in myself and not quitting when things feel hard for me to stay on track. It was NOT easy. It was often times where I almost let all this go but then thought what was the alternative?? If I quit now where would I be and what would be the end goal? I knew I had to be strong to be an entrepreneur in order to become successful. The lessons I’ve learned are strangers will be your biggest supporters, you will have to isolate yourself to elevate and that if you do not understand who your target audience is then you would always miss your potential clients. I want the world to know that makeup is my art and I want to paint the world with it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Although I’ve been here for 3 years I still do not know much about the area and fun things to do just when I was getting a chance to explore, corona virus hit and put a stop to my going out days. It never stopped me from eating though so food wise I would say Juicy Crab for sure those seafood boils are everything. Harold’s Chicken and Icebar can get you great food, drinks and music. Mazzy’s tavern chips with queso are amazing and that’s just to name a few. For some fun, I would say Andretti’s, there’s plenty carnivals down here and the night life down here it’s literally always something to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout-out to my mom and my sisters. These are the ones that supports me the most. They put up with my good moments as a business owner and then the rough side of being a business owner as every business owner knows it’s not always peachy when building the business from the ground up.. They are the first to hear my ideas, come up with ideas they think would be beneficial and help my business stand out and help me prepare for launch dates to any new products I add to my cosmetic line. They’re the real mvp even when they may not want to hear about my business all the time or have a busy schedule they still make time to listen to me and support.
