We had the good fortune of connecting with Makai Maholmes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makai, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
For me, giving up on my goals and what I want for my life isn’t an option. Even when challenges arise I believe, as long as I stay focused and motivated, there is little that is beyond my reach.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From a creative standpoint, dancing and choreographing professionally are two of my biggest passions.  Training frequently, attending intensives and continuing to perfect my craft keeps me busy. I began my dance journey at the age of 7,  training  in a variety of dance styles (Ballet, Hiphop, Contemporary, Jazz). I have had the privilege of training at some of the most prestigious dance studios across Atlanta, LA and NY, with a plethora of amazing choreographers; all who have also played a part in my growth over the years.

It’s not always easy, but definitely worth it. Like the saying goes, “anything in life worth having is worth working for”.


If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friends were visiting Atlanta for a week, I would take them to some of my favorite places: Waffle House for breakfast or dinner, Six Flags to enjoy some roller coasters and funnel cakes, Yard MilkShake Bar, Cascade Roller Skating Rink, and Main event to play a few games of bowling and laser tag.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my mother Kay Williams. Not only is she an amazing and loving mother, but she is also my biggest supporter and has helped shape me into who I am today.
