We had the good fortune of connecting with Klassic Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Klassic, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My entire career is built on risk taking. When I look back on my childhood and how hard we had it growing up and the mere fact the I had the audacity to think bigger then where I was is a risk in itself. I’ve invested in my events paying major artist to come out not knowing if the night would be successful. I’ve managed and taken artist on tour often times using my money to fund a lot of the endeavors, and every penny spent to bring Under Raps Magazine into a viable platform has been a risk. I guess the beautiful part is that I can risk it all and win as well as put those that I come in contact with in a better place. Like the sacrificial lamb.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One thing that sets Under Raps Magazine apart from the other magazines that you see is the fact that we have no major push or backing. When it come to everything related to the magazine things have literally been coming together with just myself and my design team. Its pushed me to expand my skill set so its hard but its fair. Business-wise I have taken the approach to really get Under Raps Magazine mentioned in every conversation or at least in the room of those conversations. If I get a chance for us to get seen or get promotion I take it. I overcome challenges by reminding myself that there is a whole world of people that may love my content regardless of those that don’t, In addition I make adjustments for example if something isn’t working I don’t try to force it I either tweak it or I scrap it. One lesson that I’ve learned along the way is to trust my instinct and never to wait for anyone to help you because some journeys are meant to be made alone but you’ll never go anywhere waiting for a crowd. The crowd will always come once your in motion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite place to go in the DFW is Texas live so we would probably go there first. I’m a huge taco fan so a must have would be Velvet Taco it something about that fluffy soft taco. The next night we would go Downtown and visit a few of the random bars there no need for a name because just about everything in Deep Ellum goes down on the weekend. When I want to get a little ratchet I hit the Dive on 75 a cool little dive bar off Highway 75 the best part is the fact that the drinks are affordable and the DJs are dope. During the week I would recommend any of the hookah lounges in Richardson or a few of the Daiquiri Shops that are starting to pop up in Oak Cliff and the Dallas area. We would also attend a paint and sip or Heroes for great Caribbean vibes and poetry. Gators is fun and the rooftop vibes Downtown are classy. The best part about Dallas is that great vibes can be found just about anywhere so our whole week would be comprised of going to random places because its all love in the Triple D.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a few people that have contributed to my success in on way or another. I would first have to credit everything to GOD because without him I am nothing and I mean that in every sense of the statement, Next would be my mother because that’s where I get my confidence and work ethic from in addition to a lot of knowledge in general she’s really just overall amazing. My son because he’s my heart literally the motivation behind everything I do. I think I would’ve given up a million times if not for him. My brother Devenci because he taught me a lot about rap and music in general. He probably has the most music knowledge, ear for music and talent that had the pleasure of being around. In addition he advises me a lot too and that’s been from the time I started to present day. My other siblings, nieces and nephews are a constant encouragement to me as well. I can have the worst day ever and I know one of them will pick me up. I love my family and wouldn’t trade them for anything. I Cant forget my bestie Monae who has consistently supported me in addition to the rest of my family and my friends that have supported me over the years. Thanks for making purchased, tuning in to my social media and even showing up to my events.
