We had the good fortune of connecting with Shemitria Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shemitria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started The Visionary Associates because I really wanted to help people find their purpose through their passion. I love helping people – I always have been that way. I am the one that people come to when they need that “woo-sah” moment, that moment of peace and understanding. I have always been the calm one in the group, the one who is motivating you, pushing you, cheering for you. When I sat down and really started being obedient to what God was placing in my heart, I had no idea that it would translate into what I have now – The Visionary Associates. The talks, the vision boarding, infusing positivity – that just stemmed from me wanting people to be the best that they can be. I want them to believe in themselves – to reach higher for whatever is the highest for them. I want people to know that even though we all have dark days, there are plenty of sunshine filled days, if we just look for them. I have put myself in some not so pretty situations and thank God He delivered me each time, but once I got an opportunity to really look back and embrace the lessons in the midst of them, they have helped me to be better, to strive better. I believe that if we have to do anything, we should do something that speaks to our heart, something we love, something that doesn’t feel like work and that’s what The Visionary Associates is to me. It just an extended conversation, an additional cheerleader, motivator, a wall of glowing love that believes in you and understands that sometimes we all need someone to believe in us when we stop believing in ourselves.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Visionary Associates offer vision board workshops, life coaching, accountability sessions, as well as, our very own “Positivity Possession” course. Your tongue either speaks life or it speaks death and whichever way it speaks is generally how we move. Our mental has more control over our lives than we choose to believe. At The Visionary Associates, we believe that if you surround, if you speak, if you move toward peace, toward positivity, toward productiveness, then your dreams are not only reachable but in fact, attainable. When my clients create their vision board workshops and then intentionally work toward those visual representations of their dreams, it fills me with joy each time I receive an email or phone call with excitement as they have made one more step. I have worked with children and created vision boards and it filled my heart just to see them believe in themselves, for them to think of themselves in such a light that the words “Inspiration” “Amazing” “Beautiful” fills them with joy as they put them proudly on their vision board. I am most proud that I am able to experience life with the world and watch them transform into the greatness that are already inside of them. I am not putting anything new in them, I am helping them to emerge the greatness that is already within. I had dreamed of The Visionary Associates more than 3 years ago, but it took that long for me to actually believe that I could do it enough to take action. I am what you would call an introvert and I had my small circle that I was already coaching so I thought I was set. But when God gave me the dream and said go bigger – you need to share what you have with the world, it took me a while to get out of my own way. But once I stepped to the side, things started to fall into place. My biggest challenges are probably getting people to focus on the part that they play in the movie. Most people can tell you what should have happened, what went wrong and who did what but when you start to turn the mirror around and ask the self questions – most people get offended and shut down. When you talk to people about their dreams and the work that it takes, the active steps to make, people shy away. I love stepping close to the edge with people and asking them about the person in the mirror and turning back around when the conversation strays. I love seeing them becoming aware of themselves. I love seeing them the moment that they start to believe in themselves, the moment that they start to know that they can do it and move in that direction. For me, that only solidifies the right decision for me in my obedience. I haven’t quite found a way to overcome the challenges but I believe that the people that I help at that moment will be the people that is ready to receive the next level. The lessons I have learned along the way is to keep going. Even when the dark clouds come, even with the negativity, the depression, the anxiety comes by for a visit, keep going. Sunshine is around the corner – your goals, your dreams, your accomplishments – they are there, just waiting for you. I call it “brick by brick”. And The Visionary Associates will be here to help you along the way because we believe in you as you believe in yourself. Nothing is wasted. What I want people to know about me and my story is that joy does come. Even in the midst, when you can’t see your way out, just keep pressing, just keep pushing for the sunshine, and before you even realize it, you will be basking in it. You are amazing!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So unfortunately I am a bit of a home body so we would probably sit home and talk and consume lots of wine or margaritas. BUT if we have to go out on the town The Civil Rights Museum and The Martin Luther King Jr. Center is on the list. Because I am a water person that firmly believes in its calmness, we would probably visit Sweetwater Creek or Lake Lanier.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a ton of people that helped me to the greatness I stand today. But first God, my mother (who truly showed us the value of hard work), my Poppa, my shero Guamtri. My mentor, Kim and my second mom, Maria. My dearest friends for over 20 years, Von and Kia. My motivator, my strength, my protector – Daniel. My second best friends even though they don’t know it – Les Brown, Joel Osteen, James MacNeil. My lessons – the good and the bad ones.
