We had the good fortune of connecting with Martina Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to make a lingerie/loungewear collection that is minimalist, comfortable and affordable for men and women. Beau. is meant to be beauty for ALL. I am working to expand my collection to include sizes for ALL as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have 7 years of retail and administrative experience working with large companies and small boutiques. I have a passion for fine art, fashion and history. I’ve volunteered for the Smithsonian and art festivals in the Washington DC area. I assisted and participated in trunk shows and other social networking events and I modeled in DC Fashion Week for 2 years. I recently launched my own minimalist clothing collection that’s inspired by comfort and style for all.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would show them Washington DC. With it’s culture and history, we can experience looking at the monuments, museums, and fun time exploring the city’s night life. We would visit historic H street. The street’s strip where black owned restaurants and bars.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to send a shoutout to my family – my mother (Lauren), my father (Mark), my stepfather (Lamont), my sister (Hevin) and my dog (Gizzie). They all have been super supportive in helping me to launch my business.
