We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiérra Farley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiérra, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from the westside of Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up with my mom and great-grandparents. My great-grandfather was an entrepreneur owning lounges and restaurants. My mother was a student and worked a full-time job. My great-grandmother was the matriarch of the family, making sure everything ran smoothly. I believe that I am who I am because they all nurtured me and shared their life stories with me from a young age. I always believed that I could achieve anything because of them. I believe that caring for others is most important. Because the westside is considered the inner city, there is a huge issue with drugs. I’ve dealt with this first hand due to my grandparents helping a drug addict recover without asking for anything in return. This made me realize that I should be willing to help anyone and to do so with a genuine heart.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the CEO of Bratt Cosmetics. I believe my business is different from others because I am not in it for the money. My goal is to provide affordable cosmetics and lashes for those who like to glam themselves up for a lower price! I am most proud of the connections I have made and how I have made other feel through my makeup services and products. I honestly did not have a plan when I began Bratt Cosmetics. I learned a lot as my business grew, rather than beforehand. Growing a business is not easy and I still struggle, even now. For example, I have not been receiving as many sales as I would hope to, therefore I am switching gears and will be offering new, exciting products in the near future! I overcome all challenges by praying, studying business blogs, and creating more creative marketing content. I want the world to know that I genuinely appreciate everyone who has shopped or booked with me and that anyone can start a business as long as you have the drive to do so.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friends from Tuskegee University came to visit Atlanta, I would take them to so many places! I would start off by taking them to the luxurious Airbnb I booked for them, at the Goat House Atlanta. I am an Animal Science major and the majority of my friends are animal lovers, so I think it’s a perfect fit. The next day I would take them to The Wellness Spot in College Park for some dance classes and yoga to get their bodies together and finish off the afternoon with brunch at Toast at Lenox or Egg Harbor. Later that night I would take them to Ponce City Market for outdoor fun. The day after that I would do their makeup and book them a hair appointment with my best friend Najai Downs (@itsthebbbsuite) before their photoshoot with my uncle Ray Battle (@bdpfilms_). Towards the end of the week, I would take them skating at Sparkles or Cascade, partying at different lounges, and to Six Flags. In all honesty, my city is fun we can go anywhere.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank Minister Donnella Cranford for recommending me for this opportunity. I would also like to dedicate this interview to my beloved great-grandparents for being the best that anyone can ask for, and for giving me the most rememberable childhood. Of course, I would like to thank my mother for everything and lastly, I would like to thank my friend group the “City Boys”. You all have supported me and encouraged me through tough times and I am so grateful!
