We had the good fortune of connecting with Donald Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donald, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
I’ve learned to never quit on myself. I’ve been advising clients for more than 20 years. I see many of my entrepreneurial clients struggling with the same issues I experienced. My entrepreneurial clients have great energy and drive, but do not have anyone to mentor them and tell them how to operate in order to be successful. This is why I wrote my book, “Eat What You Kill.” It is a book about my life as an entrepreneur – the ups and downs. Through my book, I’m taking those life lessons and presenting them in a digestible version that is easy to read and apply to every day life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m in an industry that is always in demand. No one likes doing the numbers! However; this is where Williams Accounting & Consulting thrives! Accounting is the language of business. Every business, small and large, and regardless of the industry, uses accounting. In addition to being a Black-owned business in a very unique industry, our differentiator is our quality of service. Our clients know they are in good hands with us. From saving money, interpreting jargon and finding additional deductions, saving our clients money and educating them on their taxes comes easy to us. To date, we’ve serviced more than 1,000 clients nationwide. However; building this business did not come easy. Although I have a great support system of family and friends, I did not have anyone financially backing me as I started and built Williams Accounting & Consulting. I had to figure out how to make money and invest the money. I had many struggles, but through perseverance, I came to understand that I have the energy and drive to make money, regardless of the circumstances. Given my background, I wanted to expand my offerings and in 2019, I launched Suivant Consulting, the small business consulting firm designed with the small business owner in mind.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If my best friend was visiting me in Atlanta, we would eat out at some of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta, like C&S Seafood & Oyster Bar, Houston’s, and Nuevo Laredo Cantina! To work up an appetite, we would walk Piedmont Park, or walk up Stone Mountain to get a great view of the east side of the city. We’d also walk up Kennesaw Mountain to get a great view of the northwest part of the city, and ride bikes on the Silver Comet Trail and the Atlanta beltline.

Of course, during the fall or winter, we would attend an Atlanta Falcons game and partake in all the pre-game festivities outside of Mercedes Benz stadium. During the winter/spring, we’d attend an Atlanta Hawks basketball game at State Farm Arena. In Atlanta, when traffic is not too bad, there are actually some great car drives, so we would be sure to drive up and down Peachtree Street and Piedmont Rd., both of which provides a great sense of the city and its history. Finally, Atlanta has some great colleges, including a number of the country’s best Historically Black Colleges and Universities, all of which are worth a visit – so I would take my friend to visit Spelman College, Morehouse College, and Clark Atlanta.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are several people who have helped me along the way – friends and family, and clients who became friends. Although I am grateful to them all, this shoutout is dedicated to my mother, Debra Williams. She is a strong woman who raised a large family with limited support. She gave me the love, support, and discipline I needed, and always encouraged me to pursue my dreams.
