We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaf Herring and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaf, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been driven by my desire to cultivate excellence in myself and opportunities for others to excel in life. I am very self motivated and enjoy a challenge and so starting a business has always been very organic for me. I think a major reason that has been the case for me is I create businesses out of my passions. I have been in business for myself since 2012, when I started my own sports performance gym that caters to NFL & MLB athletes. I leveraged my network of agents, players, and personal experience playing football to build a successful business in the sports industry. Later, I ventured off in real estate and hospitality by starting a home renovation company, Brookwood Home Designs with my wife, who is an interior designer, and then Grey Haus Luxury, which is our company that manages our AirBNBs and short term rentals. Identifying our passions and talents, and then leveraging our networks to support and build our businesses helps us to deliver excellence in our businesses and to our customers. And we couldn’t do what we love without their support.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart has always been my passion and ideas. I have built my businesses around the notion of finding a niche or idea that ties into something that I am passionate about and coming up with a plan to execute my ideas. I’m the most proud of motivating and inspiring strangers and those around me to achieve the best version of themselves and their own dreams. I love showing others that Im living proof that your dreams can become reality by having faith, believing in yourself and working hard.

It is not an easy task, making a dream into reality. You’re going to hear a lot of no’s but that’s just gasoline being poured over your fire. The biggest obstacle isn’t just getting off the ground but having the right team to maintain your business at your level of expectation. Finding the right team is half the battle. Trust me, if you think you can do it all your are mistaken. To get it started you will need to have your hand in every jar but the thing is to delegate those tasks to someone who is better at it than y0u. And that allows you to focus on the growth of your business.

Treat all of your mistakes as a learning opportunity. Build a strong network and a team to help you grow and build. Stay the course when things aren’t going your way but be flexible and open to help from those with more experience. It took me a long time to get the right formula for my business, and I have created brand that are known for excellence, quality, and integrity. I would want the world to know my story and understand that anything is possible with hard work, passion, faith and believing in yourself and craft.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Man good question & my friends out there know exactly what I would do to… First thing first I would hop in my Porsche 911 and head towards north Georgia to race my boys in the mountains. Or go mudding with my Chevy 2500 or grab an 4 wheeler and get dirty in that Georgia mud. Day 2, we would head over to Six Flags and hit every thrill ride in the park. Day 3, we would visit Krog St and Skyline Park to see the amazing street art, followed by grabbing some good Mediterranean food and hookah at Divans lounge. Day 4, we would venture around downtown Atlanta, ride the Skyview Wheel, and grab front row tickets to whatever major sport is playing Falcons, Hawks, Braves or United. Day 5, we definitely would check out all the great food and lounges. Some of my favorites are Slush, Puttshack, Sweet Georgia Juke Joint, some hookah spots in Atlanta. Day 6 we would kick back and relax until the night time when we would visit some of Atlanta’s hottest clubs and lounges like Atlantis, the Goldroom, and Havana. Day 7, we are going to grab some gear at Philips & Lenox Square; can’t forget those day parties and find an arcade to play some of our childhood video games

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely, my parents. Growing up, I didn’t understand the dedication and hard work my parents had to be successful. I watched my parents struggle, plan, hustle to succeed in their careers and in life. As an adult I really appreciate that they taught me by example. Never calling in sick, being on time, not taking ‘no’ for an answer, combined with their strength and ambitions was enough for me to never quit in anything I do in life.

Also, they say behind every great man there is a greater woman and that statement is so true for me. As my cornerstone, my wife not only supports my ideas and decisions, but she also challenges me to be the best version of myself – she also helps me with my emails lol. That’s an inside joke! Seriously, much appreciation and love to her for doing what only she can do.

And of course thank you to everyone who has supported any of my businesses whether it be by staying at one of our store term rentals, hiring us for a remodeling project, or by marketing us by referrals and word of mouth. Thanks for your support and love!
