Meet Shaterrica DeLoach | Make-up Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaterrica DeLoach and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaterrica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor that is behind my success and the success of my brand would be that I give God the credit in everything that I do. Whenever I make a business decision, I always ask God what direction does he want me to go in. I believe that praying and having God in control leads to my success in my business. In my makeup artistry, I’m able to provide a personal touch and also minister to my clients simply through my work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I’ve always had a deep passion for art. As early as Elementary School, I was drawing for others sometimes making money off it. So when I reached High School, I participated in Performing Arts where I was in Technical Theater where I built the props for recitals and/or concerts and plays as well as running the lights and sound system. After High School, I later enrolled in Georgia Perimeter College where I received an Associate of Arts Degree in Graphic Design. Next, I enrolled in Georgia State University where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Studio Concentration in Graphic Design. After graduation, I had a hard time trying to find employment in my field of study, so I continued working my job for Atlanta Public Schools as an Administrative Assistant while also working at Macy’s Department Store part-time. The years that I worked at Macy’s Department Store allowed me to expand on my creativeness as an artist by becoming an Area Specialist and a Visual Manager Assistant.
It wasn’t until 2012 that I was introduced to make-up. I remember that moment just like it was yesterday……. I was on my way headed to a Mike Epps Comedy Show at the Atlanta Civic Center. At the time, I was one of his biggest fans. Being that this was one of my favorite comedians, I wanted to do something special so I decided that I would do makeup on myself for the first time. I wanted to dress up and be all dolled up. While at the concert, I specifically remember my friend taking a photograph of me that night. After posting the picture on my Facebook page, I received so many compliments on my makeup. So, this gave me the confidence to apply make-up on more often. I continued receiving compliments on my make-up from customers and co-workers. The General Store Manager asked would I consider transferring to the Cosmetic Department because she noticed my abilities.
I prayed about it and after much prayer I didn’t feel lead at that time to make the transition to that department, so I respectfully declined her offer. Fast forward to early 2015, I landed a position working at Tyler Perry Studios as a Graphic Designer for two television shows, “The Haves or Have Not” and “For Better or Worse”. While working there, I became more intrigued and inspired to become a Make-up Artist. After completing my contract with Tyler Perry Studios, I then contacted my former supervisor about retail opportunities in cosmetics. She was at a different Macy’s location and stated that she would love to have me as apart of the team. I was then hired on as a Beauty Advisor for Fashion Fair Cosmetics. Being in the department store allowed me to familiarize myself and work with several nationally known other Cosmetic Brands. Having done so, I was able to learn skincare regimes, best-selling products, applications, and build rapport with customers as well as potential clients. While working in the cosmetic atmosphere and due to my extensive certifications with Fashion Fair Cosmetics, I was able to perfect and gain a better understanding when applying makeup applications to all ethnicities. What sets me apart, is not only am I academically trained in art, but I’ve had multiple certifications from a Global Leading Cosmetic Company.
I am most excited about opening my very own Studio, Shadow Palette’. My dreams of opening my own Studio have always been to have a place where customers can come for beauty enhancement, relaxation, and receive quality customer service. Being that my approach to makeup is much different than most make-up artist, I am most proud that I’m able to make clients feel great by creating a flawless look all while keeping them looking as natural as possible. I’m able to enhance their natural inner beauty without transforming them into this totally new person that no one can not recognize. In doing so, I am also able to give them techniques for healthy skincare and simple everyday tips. I want my passion for the makeup to show through my work. Examples of excitement that comes to mind are young ladies attending their prom night and brides on their wedding day. After I’ve completed their makeup, they are stunned by how naturally their look still is. Most state that they can’t even tell that they are wearing make-up because it feels so light.
I would say that it was not easy and has definitely been a journey, but through my constant faith in God I have been able to overcome the many challenges that have come my way. Covid-19 made business extremely difficult due to the mask and stay at home mandates causing me to temporarily close business. Repeat clients and a room for potential clients wasn’t an option because of this. There wasn’t a need for the type of business that I offered. However, I preserved, and business has improved. The lesson that I learned is that no matter what it looks like to never waiver on your faith. Faith is what gave me hope and more opportunities. Through every obstacle and challenge I see a lesson out of it.
As Owner of Shadow Palette’ LLC., I want people to know that I will always strive to give the best Customer Service to ALL of my clients no matter what race or gender. Also, I will continue to let my passion for art show through my work and my faith in God minister through every client interaction. I want each experience to be that of a memorable one.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a that I am an Atlanta, Georgia native, I can honest saying that my city that has a lot to offer. It has many historical places to visit, vibrant night life, and fine dining. Although Atlanta has a lot of things to offer, we’re now limited once again on things that we can do due to the rising surge of the Covid Variant. To ensure safe social distancing practices, I’ll provide an itinerary that we’d both enjoy that include places and outdoor activities such as Martin Luther King Home and Center, seeing the aquatics at the Georgia Aquarium, taking a stroll on Sweet Auburn Avenue, viewing the falls at Roswell Mill which is one of my best kept secret places that I love to go to, and viewing the Murals on the Atlanta Beltline.
Just to name a few, I would definitely get dressed in nice attire and we’d visit places like Apres Diem located in the Old Fourth Ward of Atlanta because it offers live music with DJs, has a great ambiance and just has an overall amazing vibe. The restaurant is famous for coffee and desserts, but has some really tasty and creative dinner items to choose from. I would also dine out at EAV Thai & Sushi located in East Atlanta Village due to their nice atmosphere, great tasting food, and amazing drinks. I’ve chosen a lot places that would allow us to be social, but to continue to safely distance ourselves with everything being still on the rise.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my parents for always being there and uplifting me in every way possible. Their many words of encouragement and support has been unmatched like none other. I especially would like to thank my mother because she was my muse on countless occasions.
