We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Waters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Being a part of a Black Greek Letter Organization is what prompted me to start my own business. I wanted to find a creative and beneficial way to serve my community and young girls. I thought of Pretty Girl Bangles & Accessories LLC almost immediately, but I knew that jewelry and accessories is something every young girl loves. I knew that when you wear jewelry and accessories you feel like your most confident self, so there was no better option for me than to start a business that caters to the need. I wanted my jewelry to be handmade, affordable and trendy. I was able to create exact that with my brand.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have been in business for 19 months and it has been the best decision ever. I was able to earn over $100,000 in sales in my first year of business. I currently have over 50,000 Instagram followers, catering to 45 states of 50 and 2 other countries. Running a business and managing to earn my Master’s degree in Public Health was not easy. I started my business and Master’s program in 2019. I was able to finish my Master’s program with a 4.0 GPA all while running, operating and managing my online business. Now that I am done with school, I can give my 100% effort to Pretty Girl Bangles & Accessories LLC. I’ve learned so much about myself and others. The biggest thing I’ve learned however has been that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I’ve pushed myself beyond limits and fought my way to the top of every goal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am from Chicago, Illinois and the first place I’d take my friend would be downtown to the Willis (Sears) Tower. That is Chicago’s staple go to spot. At the Willis Tower, they have a tourist attraction where you can walk out into the air on glass and look over the entire city. I’d do that to show her that there is beauty even amongst the chaos. Next, we’d eat down town as well, maybe at Morton’s Steak house or Cite restaurant at Navy Pier.
We’d had out at local bars and pubs such as Persona, Joy District, Punch Bowl Social or even Navy Pier.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout out to all the young girls out there struggling with self esteem and confidence. You are beautiful and do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

I also want to shoutout my mom for being supportive, every step of the way.
