We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathanael Fisher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathanael, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My wife and I saw that there were no opportunities for elementary school aged children and only one chance for middle school children to get involved in theatre. We wanted to change that for the Destin/30a Area. We also are firm believers that art breeds art – so adding Professional Theatre and Theatre for Young Audiences to reach any age person just made sense.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I always say that theatre is a community sport. What we really do at ECTC is community, it just happens to be through the medium of theatre. From the families involved, to our Leading Ladies volunteer group, community is at the heart of everything we do. The biggest challenge we have experienced is catching up to the exponential growth we have seen at ECTC. The message we’d love to get out is that there is a place for everyone at ECTC!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Vin’tij Food & Wine is one of the best restaurants on the Emerald Coast – amazing food, delightful service, a great experience all around. When we want just no frills fresh seafood, Bayou Bill’s is the place to go. South Walton has some very talented artists so we’d have to stop by the Mary Hong Gallery and Saczynski Gallery. ArtsQuest and the South Walton Food and Wine Festival are favorite events too. And of course, no vacation would be complete without seeing a show at Emerald Coast Theatre Company!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife, Anna Ogle Fisher, has been a guiding force as we’ve built this company. She lends her perspective, her leadership, and her wisdom to the organization and she keeps our family cohesive as we work through the demands of a growing nonprofit company.
