We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Batie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I spent years working in various management roles, and felt called back to the beauty world to create something new + different of my own. Many salons serve a single demographic, and when I came up with #SALON, I knew that I wanted ANYONE who walked through the doors to feel comfortable entering + confident leaving. We are a full service boutique salon that can do everything from a men’s cut, full blonde balayage, silk press, braids, fashion colors and more! Male or female, long hair or short hair, our only goal is to showcase each client’s natural beauty!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are unlike any other boutique full-service salon due to our ability to serve all demographics. We specialize in not specializing. We are experts in cuts, colors, and styling, and are always on top of the latest trends. Our path to growth has not been easy, as we opened last year in the midst of COVID. I saw an opportunity to do something unconventional and seized it. And while the salon has seen growth since it opened its doors, it has also seen struggle in the middle of the pandemic. Despite going above and beyond in adherence to the CDC guidelines, the strict restrictions paired with the fear that plagued the public meant far fewer clients in the chair. More disappointing than the lost revenue, however, was the lost connection with the community. In a year where seniors did not get to attend homecoming or prom and weddings were postponed or downsized the salon lost the opportunity to create beautiful hair and makeup looks. I want the world to know that #SALON wants to be the place you come to get a blowout before your headshot photo, come to color your hair before your gender reveal, or try bangs for the first time to surprise your boyfriend. I can summarize it best by saying we want to help glamorize the best moments in your life even if that is just taking a Saturday morning to get a haircut for a little self-care.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone were visiting our area for the weekend, I would start by taking them to Whisky Blue Friday night for drinks and dancing.

When we woke up Saturday, I would recommend Egg Harbor Cafe for breakfast then go to Marietta Square for their Saturday morning Farmer’s Market and shopping. For lunch, we would have to go to Dat Fire Jerk Chicken for incredible Caribbean food! Saturday night we would go to Two Urban Licks for dinner to enjoy delicious bites and live music before hitting The Battery! They have multiple bars overlooking the Braves Stadium each with their own personality.

On Sunday morning we would go to Breakfast and Barney’s for brunch & mimosas before going walk around at Piedmont Park. We would finish our day going to The Painted Pin for luxury bowling, fun vibes, and afternoon cocktails.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My first inspiration came early in my career from my mentor Carrie Chandler who was the district director at Salvation Army. Her love and passion for people and serving the community resonated with me, and is something that I have sought to carry forward. I have also been blessed to work alongside a multitude of very talented and successful female entrepreneurs. Learning the ins and outs of a small business has helped prepare me for my personal journey. Most importantly, I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my mother! I grew up watching her manage her many businesses while also being a single mom. While working as a college professor for over 30 years, she continued to manage both the family and her other businesses. I have truly been blessed with phenomenal female role models.
