We had the good fortune of connecting with Tisha Ayers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tisha, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work/life balance has definitely had a drastic shift since starting Cashmere Moon. I spend most of my time doing something business-related, whether it’s in front of the computer, packaging orders, or trying to develop new products. Crazy enough, I absolutely love nurturing my business and watching it grow. But I understand how balance is important. I have two children and while I want them to see their mommy growing a business, I want to also know them and cherish the time we have together. To do this, I usually set aside Sundays as family days and take long breaks from work to play with them or have discussions over dinner. My husband and I take time to go out and enjoy each other’s company.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cashmere Moon is an indie beauty and body care company that is putting luxury on the face of natural hand-crafted body care products. Tired of lotions and creams that didn’t measure up to the promise of providing moisture to my dry skin for the whole day and discouraged by the thick, messy creams that provided day-long moisture, I started experimenting in order to come up with something that could provide day-long moisture without the thick, greasy mess. With the #1 priority being skin-nourishment, I started Cashmere Moon. Our products are vegan, cruelty-free, eco-conscious, and without nasty harmful chemicals.
Running a business has moments of extreme highs and lows. It definitely wears on your confidence but at the same time, shows you how strong, relentless, and ambitious you can be. It’s like those Sour Patch Kids commercials – sometimes it’s sweet, but sometimes it’s sour. I’ve been told ‘no’ quite a bit, but the times that I receive a ‘yes’, keeps me going. Not to mention, my amazing customers that share how our products have been beneficial to them.
Along the way, I’ve learned to never stop improving. That goes for myself, personally, and for my business. I am forever investing in my education and more research for the business. I’m not afraid of change and critiques and that has helped me thus far.
I want the world to know that we are here! If you’re on the search for body care that promises to keep you moisturized throughout the day and promote your natural glow, you’ve found it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the outdoors so if I had a friend that was coming to visit, our itinerary would be filled with good eats and fun outdoor things to do. Staying in Augusta area, there are lots of things to do with bigger cities just a short drive away.
Since nothing can be accomplished on an empty stomach, we would grab food first at my favorite local Indian restaurant, Namaste. It’s authentic, delicious Indian street food that is perfect for any time of day. After filling our bellies, we would have to visit the Savannah River Rapids. We could ride bikes, following the trail to Augusta, hang out near the river, or even rent some kayaks and go on the water! That night, we would have to hang out at Vance’s Bakery Bar, which is a new but memorable bar in Augusta that offers delectable boozy desserts. Booze and dessert are two of my favorite things and mixing them together makes me oh so happy!
Since we are so close to other major cities, throughout the trip, I would make sure to take my friend across the bridge to South Carolina so we could enjoy some great seafood.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Mike! He has been super supportive from the very beginning. He doesn’t see my full vision but he knows I will succeed and I appreciate him for that.
