We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My balance has definitely become 80/20 since I started my business. My business has taken over my whole life in the best way possible. Everything I do, I do with my business in mind. I’m also constantly thinking of ways I can grow and improve my business. Since being in business for a year, I have found ways to try and balance the two. I think balance is very important to prevent burnout. It has happen to me multiple times.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Wax Queen Candle Co was founded in April 2020. At the time, I was a Junior in college so starting a business was very new to me. I was really surprised when my business took off the way it did. I believe my creativity is what sets me apart from the competition. Anyone can pour a candle but not everyone can make them the way I make them. I just want the world to know that everything I create comes from the heart. I absolutely love what I do and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, I would definitely take them to Mojave. It’s currently my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. The vibe is amazing and so is the food. If we’re going shopping or for drinks, i’d take them for a trip to little five points. My favorite crystal shop (Crystal Blue) is there as well as a bunch of thrift shops. I also love to have drinks at The Vortex so we’d stop there as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends have really been my rock throughout starting my business (Kenya and Serena). They’ve supported me from the very beginning and have always helped out when they can. I have so many people who offer to help me when I become overwhelmed and a majority of the time they bail on me. Kenya and Serena are the only ones who haven’t. I also have to shout out my parents because I started this business in their kitchen and eventually moved to their basement. My mom also purchased some of my inventory in the beginning and I am forever grateful.
