We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanel Tillman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chanel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been instructing line dance aerobics classes, hosting/emceeing events and a voice over artist for years. It seemed only fitting to put all of my talents under one umbrella and create a business doing all the things I love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been on the entertainment scene in some capacity. It began in my Jr High/High School years writing poetry that turned into rap/song lyrics. I recorded with a few local artists to include a singing trio I was a part of. When I moved to FL the game changed. I had a short stint in radio which led to my emceeing major and local music events and voice over work. Once the station shut down I continued hosting poetry and music events locally; still do to this day. Getting to where I am today was not easy. My instructing line dance and firearm classes came about because two people saw something in me that I did not. I am forever grateful for the constant pushes they gave me to expand myself and share my talents. I overcame the challenges I faced/created with their assistance. I have always followed my heart and partook of anything for which I felt the desire or received a strong push to try. I have a passion for people and love being a Jack of many trades and a Master of most. The lesson I learned was try anything once. If you don’t like it, don’t do it again BUT if you like/love it keep at it and secure your place in it. My brand, The Storm Affect TSA LLC, is an atmospheric disturbance that everyone is sure to enjoy. This is a Storm you’ll want to dance in without thought of an umbrella or raincoat & boots. Although it’s just starting there is no end to this disturbance in sight.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are a few places in Jacksonville and the surrounding area that we frequent and love. I’ve become quite fond of roof top dining so Hoptingers, Black Sheep and River & Post would definitely be patronized for dining. Recently I stepped out of my box and did some tubing on the springs, kayaking and water cycling so I’d definitely take them to have a little water fun. Since I’m a firearm and line dance instructor hitting the range and a dance floor would be a must. There are so any nature trails in the area we would have to check out a few especially for sunrise and sunset.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A really good friend of mine, Leroy Mosley gets the shout out. He recognized the instructor in me early when I did not recognize it in myself. He approached me about instructing a line dance aerobics class for his I Will Workout fitness organization. I told him NO several times before I finally gave in and I’m glad I did. His pep talks and positive comments regarding what he saw in me made a lot of difference. Thank you Lee.
