Ralph Russell | Professional DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ralph Russell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ralph, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is showing professionalism. Any event that I’m booked to DJ for, I always show up early, prepared to setup my equipment. I do this to ensure everything works accordingly so once the event starts, there will be no technical difficulties. Being professional as an entrepreneur shows people that you provide excellent customer service and brings in referrals from others who tell their friends about my brand/DJ company.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The thing that sets me apart from others is that I am talented in multiple areas. Even though I mainly DJ and produce music, I also have a graphic design business, event promotions team, and music promotions/ management service. I started providing these services once I got to college because I realized I needed to expand my brand as an entrepreneur/creative. Also, these services were more revenue streams that I could use to fund expenses I had in college. I am excited for what’s next after I graduate college next year (Spring 2021). I plan on moving back to Atlanta and pursuing a radio DJ job, while doing music production. I’m currently working with a few independent artists in Atlanta, including my friends DJ Epic & Quez4real. We are working to get their music heard by a larger audience so we can go on tour Summer 2021. I got to where I am today by staying consistent and never giving up. When I started DJ-ing in 2010, I was young and didn’t really know how to run a business. I wasn’t getting booked for many parties and when I did get booked, I didn’t get paid much. Over the years, I began to get booked for more events and my business was running well. I also went through many bad experiences with people who didn’t pay me on time or tried to do business the wrong way. I learned from these experiences and it made me a smarter businessman. I could have given up my DJ Career but I didn’t let the obstacles discourage me from continuing my passion.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I would take them to get some Lemon pepper wings at American Deli. That’s my favorite wing place in Atlanta. After that, we can go skating at Cascade Skating Rink. Cascade Skating Rink is my go-to place when I want to have a good time. You can skate, eat, and listen to good music while hanging out with friends. Some other interesting places we might go to will include: World of Coke, Centennial Olympic Park, Lenox Mall & The Varsity.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my best friend, Raymond a.k.a. DJ Epic. We DJ events and make music together. I brought him up as the DJ to take my place once I graduated high school and went to college. He just started rapping a few years ago and now I am producing beats for him to rap on.
