Meet Zahara Mehta | Professional newborn photographer in Atlanta, GA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zahara Mehta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zahara, why did you pursue a creative career?
I love that this work combines technology and creativity. Technically, the lighting has to be just right to create the perfect balance of shadows and highlights. We have mastered every function of our camera so that shooting in manual becomes a muscle memory, as the settings are constantly changing. Designing a session is the fun part. Incorporating props, fabrics and accessories to customize exactly what the clients request brings out the our creative side.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in newborn photography. Most sessions happen before the baby reaches three weeks of age. It is such a special time for the parents and creating art for them is truly amazing. My work baby-focused, I love the simplicity of monochromatic setups and bold colors with some rich neutrals too. Deep shadows and perfect skin tones are our signature. Black and white parent images are my favorite because all the distractions are taken away, all we see is unconditional love.
Newborn photography is truly my dream job and I really feel lucky that photographing babies everyday is now my career. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing new parents view their images, whether it’s on the back of my camera or printed on a canvas.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love trying new local mom & pop restaurants and Ponce City Market has so many delicious dining options. Our favorite is Botiwalla, a refreshing new twist on traditional Indian cuisine. A must-see is Stone Mountain, take the tram up at sunset, you can see the whole skyline on a clear day and its like no other. Walking on the Beltine can turn into a whole day of fun. There are so many people to watch, restaurants and bars to drop into and get your steps in at the same time. If you’re in the dancing mood, we love the Clermont lounge for great music.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Almost 8 years ago I took a professional plunge and decided to mentor with the newborn photography industry GOAT, Amy Scott from Dewdrops photography. I was nervous and thrilled to be in her presence. She generously taught me every tiny detail of what goes into creating an insanely beautiful image. Practice makes perfect, as they say, so I used those lessons to sharpen my skills and truly create a dream job for myself. Also of course my family for being so patient and encouraging with my endeavors. Without their daily support I couldn’t do this job!
