We had the good fortune of connecting with Yin Agbontaen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yin, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m originally from Brooklyn, New York! I was raised there but went to middle and high school in Rhode Island. I then went to college in Tennessee and moved to California after I graduated. I lived in SoCal for 3 years before moving to Atlanta. On top of that, I’m first-gen with parents from China and Nigeria. All of that pretty much sums up who I am as a person! I’m extremely multi-passionate and multi-faceted. I blend well in almost any environment, can turn any stranger into a friend, and am not afraid of stepping outside my comfort zone.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have 2 businesses that I’m extremely proud of. My first baby is my health/wellness business — I partnered with a 40-year-old vegan health/wellness company in 2018 and since then have been educating women on gut health and clean ingredients, and coaching others on how to do the same online. That business helped me build enough time + financial flexibility to explore various other jobs, which led me to the social media industry. After working with a full-service marketing agency, I opened my own social media creative agency, Andbeyond Media, in 2023.

Simple? Yes, Easy? No. But 1000% worth it. Although I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit (for example, in college I threaded eyebrows and did waxes for extra money), I didn’t realize being an entrepreneur was a real thing until I was introduced to my online health/wellness business. I am where I am now because of it. It taught me so much about business, networking, and showing up authentically. It gave me mentorship, access to women millionaires, and introduced me to personal development. Everything I know about life + business now has come from it.

The biggest thing that sets me apart is my authenticity. I am pretty much the same person online, in person, in meetings, over the phone with friends, etc. Of course, I know when and how to be professional but even then I keep a certain level of authenticity. I know that as long as I can be true to myself, business will work out just fine and I will attract all the experience and success for my greatest good. That’s what I want people to know and that’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned. Remain true to yourself and your vision — everything else will work out.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In these situations, I am not the best planner. If I had a friend visiting, they would know to be ready for anything but here are some things that could make the list:

– a walk on the beltline (starting at Krog St Market, walking toward Ponce City Market)
– Atlantic Station
– Toast on Lennox for brunch
– I’d probably find a new spot to eat so we both can experience something new but I love Barcelona Wine Bar, Two Urban Licks, Eight Sushi, and MCK.
– I have a lot of friends that host dope events so I usually wait to see what they plan LOL

I’m still an ATL newbie so I still have to hop on tiktok from time to time and find out what good around the city

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There isn’t a person or situation that deserves credit — they all do. I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason! Without everything happening the way it did or someone entering/exiting my life then I certainly wouldn’t be where I am now. I will say one of the top things I can give credit to is my first and only full time job. I really enjoyed it but at the end of the day, it showed me a life that I didn’t want for myself and forced me into full time entrepreneurship.
