Meet Will Frontera | Director & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Frontera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Will, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Takings risks in a career is how you make a career. Playing it safe will never get me to the full potential I’d like to unlock. Filmmaking as a career in general is a risky one to enter. There isn’t much stability early on and you start at the bottom. I take risks by putting myself out there and making connections, and investing in myself to get my projects seen. I took a big risk last year by putting a lot of saved money into my first short film, and I couldn’t be happier that I did! If I hadn’t done that, I’m not sure where I’d be right now! I feel very confident that taking multiple risks has given me an opportunity to achieve what I’d like to achieve, and hope to take more in the future as I continue my journey!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve gotten the chance to be a part of some really great projects but the one I’m most proud of is my short film “Chuck”. It is a proof of concept for a feature length screenplay I wrote and we successfully premiered it recently! I was happy to finally get the chance make my own material and am happy with the result! It was the culmination of a five year grind of working on productions, which has mostly been a great experience! There’s been challenges like consistency of work and projects not going according to plan, as well as this pandemic thing that occurred. However, perseverance has kept me going and my drive for my ambition to succeed makes me want to continue! I’m happy to say I don’t plan to ever stop working on the dream until it’s achieved!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So this is the part of the article where people find out how uninteresting I can be outside of filmmaking! I would probably spend most of the time in just chatting and catching up, but if I had to take them out to places, it would probably be to a sporting event or historic site. The three places I’m the biggest nerd is sports, film and history, so being able to do any of those things with people always gets me excited! I would also probably wanna do something interactive like going out to the Battery or Tubing, anything that can get us to move around a bit and have a good time, I’m always down for!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people can be attributed to helping me get to where I am! Starting with my family, who while cautious, allow me to pursue my passions with their full support, and if I didn’t have that I wouldn’t be anywhere! My screenwriting professor Mitch Olson helped me understand the craft of writing and helped me get on set for the first time! Midnight Coffee Productions, the production company I work with, has been a tremendous blessing in allowing me to expand my career. Working with them and its CEO, Alix Oliver, closely has given me opportunities that I wouldn’t have had and I’m deeply greatful for them! Then honestly just anyone else who’s worked with me or been supportive of me has been a huge help more than they know, so I’m great fil for the support!
