We had the good fortune of connecting with Wesley Sweetapple and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wesley, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balancing Music and Work and having a social life has been trial and error over time for me. I spent a lot of my early twenties partying and adventuring around the city instead of putting in work into my lifelong dream. I was stuck at the moment, not really having the financial support to get myself the things i needed to invest in my musical career, so I spent most of my time just partying and getting to know new people. Later in my twenties after a series of emotional traumatic events took place, I realized it was now or never, and went 100 percent into my passion, my dream; Being a successful/impactful artist/musician. If you didn’t somehow contribute to knowledge or inspiration for my music, i had nothing to do with you. I spent all my time educating myself, watching tutorials on youtube on how to produce/record/mix and master music, how to market my music, just everything i could. After a while if found myself with only a small handful of friends that truly believed in me and inspired me everyday. Others watched through a metaphorical glass window as i cancel social plans and stayed at home 24/7 working on my craft. To this day it’s pretty much the same. I struggle with knowing i need to have balance in my life, it’s good to put your heart and soul in your craft, but if you don’t find some kind of balance, and return to the energies of everyday normal life, socializing and maturing with your peers, you will definitely burnout and find your body forcing yourself to take a break.

Having over 100k listeners in a month on Spotify was a really proud moment especially since it was done independently. Interviewing on podcasts and radio shows have always been a dream of mine and getting to finally do it has been amazing. Also bringing my close friends together all working on my music helping it bring it to life’s been a different kind of proud accomplishment. And now having a single being distributed on a major label is another milestone. Definitely nothing about this has been easy, i’ve sacrificed just about everything to just to get here where i’m barely scratching the surface, but i’m glad things are coming together now rather than when i was younger, im much wiser to the industry and myself most important, and feel like ill definitely have more longevity cuz of that. So many times i’ve been frustrated and wanted to give up, but i’ve known this was my path since i was 12. So i don’t stay down and out for too long, this is all i have so after some mind cleansing, i get right back at it. accomplishments? I do just about everything myself, from making beats, writing all the lyrics, recording, mixing and mastering myself. Most artists are too overwhelmed by that amount of work so I think my work ethic really sets me apart. Then my diverse music influences allows me to blend music that I think no other emcee has quite done before. All while telling real life stories and being humble about it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Id defintely would take a friend to check out the Trap music museum. After that would go to Steamhouse Lounge for seafood. A walk or scooter ride through the beltine – Krog street tunnel for some backstreet art and chillin. Probably to Estoria after for drinks and relaxing. Maybe a show at the Fox theater. Would have to go shopping in lil 5 points and have sushi at Thai 5. Maybe another night out at Reverie for some Vr games and drinks. Hit the local on a monday night for karaoke after a stroll through piedmont and maybe a game of pool at The highlander. End that night at the Clairmont. Then probably snooze at the crib after all that lol!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There aren’t a whole bunch of people that have stuck by my side through this journey. But the ones i feel truly thankful towards are my friends that are true fans and supporters of my music and art. Brennon Foster, for being such an intelligent and kind friend taking time out of his locked in schedule working on movie sets to help me turn my songs into real life videos. Kris Khantharixay for being a real friend and making things happen when they needed to. Dakota Tillman for being an understanding and supportive friend through my endeavours and ambitions, And every single person whos listened to my music and has told me which song they love the most.
