Hi Walter, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process for my first business was much different than my second business. My first business, I jumped in once I heard all the information. I thought an All Terrain Train was a great idea! I thought I did enough leg work to determine if I made a good decision, thankfully I did but it was just jumping head-first. I was ready to leave the work force or at the very least not fully depend on an employer. My second business I actually took some time to research and speak with other business owners in the same field, I put together a business plan, as well as a budget to start my second business. I took my mistakes I made from the first business and created a totally different strategy to start Shields Vending Services and I am pleased with the outcome.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, we would more than likely start with some golf, we both love playing golf. We enjoy an occasional cigar as well; we would possibly stop by the Cigar City Club for a cigar and a drink. I really enjoy art so the High Museum of Art would also be on the agenda. We love seafood, dinner would be at C&S Seafood & Oyster Bar or any other great seafood restaurant. I live in Atlanta as well as enjoy being outside thus Piedmont Park or Stone Mountain would be a great place for a hike or walk. Those are a couple of my favorite spots around the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I must give a lot of credit to my family and friends! My sister Yalunka Shields and my mother Elizabeth Shields has really champion me through starting these businesses. There are moments of doubt that always creep in, and they provide me with the motivation needed to keep going along with some of my friends who are also taking the same path or similar paths. As a businessman/person I think you are always mitigating risk and that provides a level of pressure that working a normal 9 to 5 doesn’t. Most of the time I feel that I am moving in the right direction but sometimes I need motivating words or actions and my friends and family provide that and motivate me to keep going. Shout out to my family and friends who constantly motivate me to stay on this path of entrepreneurship, it means more than you know! Thank you ALL!
