We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Petersen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting your own business is very hard, there is a lot of unknown and at the begging you struggle a lot to pay the bills and sometimes wonder if it’s worth all the headache and things you have to give up when you own your own business. In my case owning a grocery store means I’m on call everyday when the supermarket is open which is 7 days a week. Even when i”m not present at the store i still have to work from home and resolve a lot of things that most people are unaware of. Vacation also means you have to have you phone on you the whole time and your laptop too so you can work from where ever you are. You never get a day off, always have to depend on employees and especially now with Covid is very hard to find good employees or even people whiling to work at all.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My way of thinking was always quality of products versus prices, of course that matters too but I never changed the quality of my meats especially over the years, they have always been top quality and we pride ourselves on that. Also I’m very big on having good employees and making sure my customers are well taken care of.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t go out that much anymore so I’m kind of lost to where the good places are lately so usually I just google for good restaurants and read the reviews and always try to try new places.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I could not be where I’m today if it was for all my customers and employees that along the years helped my business grown. Without them we would have not survived many obstacle that came over the years.
