We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Moon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I believe risk to be one of the most important aspects about life and especially regarding career. Most of us tend to play it safe and do what we know works for everyone or what we know others want us to do. However, when taking risks one already becomes a standout and a trendsetter. I believe it’s important to lead others and show them new and creative ways of expressing themselves. Every single invention or new creative vision that innovates the world began with a thought. That thought then executed, despite the risk of other’s negative opinions, could surely become the greatest tool ever invented. I am sure those around the person who thought of the wheel, thought that inventor was taking a huge unconventional risk by daring to roll that wheel down a hill. However, ignoring that persecution turned out to be one of the greatest inventions of humankind. Risk is a necessary part of growth and gives others the courage to follow suit.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a professional musician and a tarot reader/psychic intuitive and I do feel they go hand in hand. Since I was young I always had many visions of all kinds of scenes. I used to sleep walk quite intensely, to the point where my house had to be safety proofed, and I was scared to sleep alone until I was about 8 years old. I would see and hear all types of people and “daydreams” that were peculiar to those around me, but then those visions would come true. I only shared this with my mother, but I was always nervous. She got me tested and I turned out to be very intelligent and got into school early and exceeded in academics. My father took the opportunity of my love of music to teach me all types of songs and encouraged me to perform them. Around age 9, the intense visions of my youth subsided when I auditioned for professional children’s choir. There started my musical journey and after many singing lessons and years of touring with choirs, I earned a scholarship to University of Delaware to study Opera. I also took many advanced classes in High School and studied a few languages and continued this in College. My love of classical literature and history also increased in college, these things helped me to understand people like me. Someone that always felt connected to a higher power through music and intuition. Having excelled with both through my studies, I wanted to apply my talents in real world ways that would help my peers. I then moved from Delaware to New York City and joined an electro funk rap group. This was a very successful for a few years before I eventually went solo and started recording dance records with a few major deejays and singing backup for major artists. However, my journey took a turn once I became a mother. Once I got the hang of motherhood I wanted to find ways to have the flexibility to record music and still encourage others to pursue their dreams. I began posting my intuitive tarot readings on YouTube and I fast became monetized and an influencer. Having been sponsored by many different brands since, I began to get requests for private readings and that launched my private business. With that flexibility I’ve been able to move to Atlanta and jump into music and have accrued a much bigger fanbase. I now am working with major power players in the music industry while recording my masterpiece to unveil to the world and still giving people the tools they need to spiritually do the same.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is exciting, as there is always something to do. On Monday night’s I tend to frequent Monday Night Brewing in NW, for a party called Controllerise. It’s a nice collection of deejays and producers showcasing their latest creations as well as a night designed for people to come together playing games, eating, drinking, dancing, and making live art all while networking. I would suggest spending an evening sunset at Arabia Mountain in historical Stonecrest, GA. It’s definitely a hidden gem full of archeological wonders and its ancient vibe is extremely healing. Definitely catch an Atlanta United game at the Mercedes Benz stadium. One of my best nights in the city was experiencing the community come together to cheer on the soccer team. There are great parties in the city, including “Like Glue” and “Rum Punch” for a Caribbean vibe like no other. However, the most fun is definitely to catch one of Atlanta’s many outdoor festivals. The parks here are amazing, and seeing everyone outside enjoying the music and creativity of the vendors is very special. Especially those with cosplay. Finally, my favorite brunch spot is Ms. Icey’s, it’s always exciting and the food is top tier.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will always shoutout my mother, Angela Miller. She and my father passed away in 2018 and I loved them both dearly. Most of my confidence, when I had none, came from my mother. She always encouraged my quirkiness to be put on display. She also supported my whims whether it be art classes, or singing lessons and encouraged me to be my best. She was also my very best friend, she never let me feel outcasted or let me doubt my talents. To this day, I don’t become sad when I think about her because she was so integral in my growth that I can hear her reaction to almost any and every quandary that I go through in life moving forward. She was clever and original and she was a go-getter. Simply knowing that I have made her proud cures any insecurity or any self-doubt. I will always shoutout my Angel, Angela.
