We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Tenecia Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Hall, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve seen my mother have several different businesses growing up so entrepreneurship is in my blood. I began my brand almost 4 years ago and I wanted to put a product with the brand. My passion is curly hair and I wanted to give my customers items to protect their crown.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business Curl Muva LLC was born during the pandemic. I was furloughed from my job fo 10 weeks and had the time to grow my baby (business). During this time my mother taught me to sew. I started making masks and that showed me that I have a love for having my own business. I then started selling bonnets, durags satin lined shower caps, scrunchies and much more. I’m most proud of myself for not giving up. Even on the days when I make no sales or just feel like I’m not making an impact I haven’t given up. One of my favorite small business owners Mia Ray always says the key to success is to stay consistent so that’s how I push through I just do my best to stay consistent. The most valuable lesson I learned was that my target audience is not just my family and friends it’s the world and I want my business to touch every part of the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in the city include food! If my best friend came to town we’d have to have brunch at Milk and Honey. We’d have to have swamp things from Pappadeaux. Hennyritas from Harold’s is a must. We would have to to go to Slutty Vegan. I want to go take pictures with the murals around the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband, 3 kids and my parents. They are patient with me when I’m packing orders. They know that we will be going to the post office multiple times a week and they listen to all of my ideas without getting annoyed with me. I’d also like to shoutout my GOALfriends for amazing group chat where we helped each other with business ideas.
