We had the good fortune of connecting with Taurean Cavins-Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taurean, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
As an actor, my life is nothing but risk, but the way I look at risk and my definition of the word itself has changed over the years. You take a risk submitting to projects, you take a risk submitting to agents, but I’ve found recently that the truest and most fulfilling risk is taking a chance on yourself. To truly take your career and passion into your own hands. Currently, my definition of risk takes the form of a stage play about legendary actor and filmmaker, John Cassavetes. It’s called ‘Independent’, written and directed by John D. Babcock III, starring myself and Anna Broadway with John Carucci stage managing. We play at Windmill Arts, February 12-15th. Like Cassavetes, I became tired of waiting on the “industry” to give me my shot and have decided to clear my own path.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve known what I’ve wanted to do since I was eight years old. Childhood wasn’t easy and acting, playing and imagination were my solaces. I don’t know if I’d be here without acting, and my life’s work is to give that same solace to anyone else who may need it, no matter their age.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Love this! I would cook at least a couple homemade meals for them, probably themed around movie nights, but otherwise I would absolutely be taking them to Lloyd’s for pizza and a pitcher, Rasoi for some great Indian, and Bask Steakhouse for a night of fancy feasting. To work off all the delicious food, we’d hit the botanical gardens and take a walk by the Chattahoochee. I’d love to catch an Atlanta Gladiators hockey game, hit up The Plaza Theatre for a classic movie and then finish at Chaplin’s in Roswell for some impressive karaoke.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is dedicated to my parents, Patrice Cavins and Xavier Flores. I’m one of the few lucky artists who has parents that said, “You want to be an actor? Absolutely! We’re 100% behind you!”
