We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susan, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?

One aspect of my work as a public health professional and the author of Whimsky Works that may not be immediately apparent to outsiders is the powerful role storytelling plays in bridging the gap between health education and childhood development. Important topics like skincare, hygiene, emotional well-being, and healthy habits are often overlooked in both educational and healthcare settings. Unfortunately, children are not always taught these essential concepts in ways that resonate with them.

With Whimsky Works Skincare Patrol, I aim to fill these critical gaps by utilizing engaging and imaginative stories that captivate young readers while subtly imparting lessons on self-care, resilience, and health awareness. What may appear to be simple adventures at first glance actually convey profound messages designed to empower children with lifelong tools for wellness. This unique blend of creativity and health advocacy may come as a surprise to many, but it is essential for fostering healthier, more informed communities.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

What sets Whimsky Works apart from other children’s book series is its powerful blend of imagination, education, and heart. These stories are designed not just to entertain but to empower children with lessons about self-care, confidence, and kindness. At its core, Whimsky Works addresses real-life challenges, including bullying, in a relatable and approachable way—offering young readers a safe space to learn resilience and empathy.

My journey to creating Whimsky Works wasn’t easy. Before I started, I faced my own struggles, including being bullied as a child. I know firsthand how deeply those experiences can shape a person’s sense of self-worth. As I grew and faced further challenges in both my personal and professional life, I learned to turn adversity into motivation. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is that challenges are opportunities for growth. I’ve come to embrace challenges because they strengthen me and push me to create solutions for others.

The inspiration for Whimsky Works also comes from the reality that bullying is not limited to childhood—it even occurs in the workplace, as we’ve seen in recent news. Through this series, I want to offer children a different perspective on bullying, teaching them that kindness, courage, and standing up for others can change lives. But my mission doesn’t end with the children. I also aim to engage adult readers—parents, teachers, and mentors—empowering them to guide and protect the next generation, ensuring that bullying is confronted and no longer tolerated.

Moving forward, Whimsky Works will continue to be a brand that inspires, educates, and unites communities. It is a brand rooted in hope, resilience, and empowerment. Through imaginative storytelling, I hope to spark conversations that shape a better future for our children and create a world where empathy, strength, and inclusion are at the forefront.

To all my readers, young and old, I want to say thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we are building a brighter, more compassionate tomorrow—empowering minds one book at a time. I wanted to share a special treat with my audience;

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

The success of Whimsky Works and my current position would not have been possible without the unwavering support and inspiration of many incredible people in my life. First and foremost, I dedicate my shoutout to God and my loving parents, Samuel and Helen Morgan, who instilled in me the values of perseverance, faith, and hard work.

I am deeply thankful for my husband, Jeffery Roberts, whose constant support and encouragement have been my anchor throughout this journey. To my wonderful children, Marie David Deion and Anthony; my honorary son, Damon Gresham, daughter Nakayla, son-law Alex; stepchildren Diquan, Jamale, Trevon, and Caleb; my grandchildren Skylar Kai, Axel Josiah, Kimberly; and honorary grandson—Sammie, two brothers Sam and Nick you all are my greatest inspiration. To my family, the best cousins, uncles aunties, nieces, and nephews residing in Flint, Michigan, South Bend, Indiana, Mississippi, Minnesota, Kentucky, and Georgia, thank you for always standing by myside, keeping me grounded and showing me the way whenever help was needed. A special heavenly recognition to my sister, uncle, aunties, and grandparents.

A heartfelt thank you to my supportive home, Family Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan, and Georgia church, Shady Grove Missionary Baptist church. My Sister Terri, my daughter-in-law Bianca, and my daughter-in-law-to-be Treasure. Your encouragement and love have carried me through each milestone. I also want to recognize my dear friends near and far who have shown unwavering support.

I owe immense gratitude to the following members of the US Navy for shaping my character and resilience. Mentors such as Retired Commander Neuges, Retired Master Chief Ingram, Retired Senior Chief Inga, Captain Cubano, Captain Gardner, Captain Potenza, Commander Mallick, Commander Riddick, Commander Burge, LT Cuellar, and LCDR Sowell have played pivotal roles in guiding my growth. You challenged me to exceed my limits and equipped me with the tools to thrive in all situations.

To my “battle buddy” and the entire Role 3 Victor Unit KAF Family—thank you for the camaraderie and lessons that continue to shape my work and advocacy today.

I also want to give special recognition to the silent family, friends, and supporters who stand beside me on this project. Your quiet strength uplifts me every step of the way. Most of all, a huge thank you to my amazing Whimsky Works fans—you are the heartbeat of this mission, and your love for these stories inspires me to keep going.

Each of these remarkable individuals and groups has left a lasting impression on my journey, and I am forever grateful for their mentorship, love, and encouragement. Thank you for helping me bring Whimsky Works and my life mission.
