We had the good fortune of connecting with Sumer Edwards-Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sumer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
To be honest, business wasn’t really on my radar. It just happened. I really wanted to be a nurse or teacher. However, I realized there was more in me and I had the ability to monetize ideas. I had to use this skillet when I lost everything and had to start over from scratch with my husband and children. It made me to realize that I had what it take to run and effective coaching and training business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is very unique as it compromises four main areas: 1. Christian Life & Trauma Coaching
2. Training and Development
3. Christian Counselling
4. Motivational Speaking
I am very proud of having contributed to my country and other international and regional countries through training programs and open opportunities to speak, train and counsel a myriad of clients. My programs are not bought or found in a template but uniquely given to me by God. I’ve seen many other flourish through my training programs, counselling and coaching to places I didn’t even realize I was capable of taking them.
Hard work, consistency and total dependence on God has brought me this far in business. Currently, I have been led to restructure the way I do things to better serve my clients. Starting and running a business is by no means easy. If you’re not willing to put in the work then you are better off doing an 8-4 where you must perform in order to keep your job and gain a salary.
I’ve faced alot of challenges in business alot had to do with my own insecurities and not asking for help. I overcame those challenges when I changed my mindset; looking at competitors as community and not opponents. I had to understand that many people started and longevity of business has alot to do.with forming relationships and networking. Pride can kill progress.
When people see SEW Global as a brand they use know that there is hope and this brand is one that exists to Impact lives, Influence decisions and ignite purpose. I have come from humble beginnings but have been built to bring hope through Christian Life & Trauma Coaching, Training and Development, Motivational Speaking and Christian Counselling.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favourite spots are more in the country side. Where natural resources are used as a part of everyday life. Seeing persons fish, hike, hunt and enjoy the sea and sand and rivers. Where water source comes from the coconuts and the rivers and fruits trees are in abundance; being a part of their diets ad vegetables as well. I would invite my best friend to the North Coast of Trinidad and Tobago or the deep South areas where you would find the aforementioned.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband deserves to be recognized after God. He would listen to my crazy ideas and my passion and would support it. My children are also by cheerleaders. My mother who is now deceased spoke so many words into my life that I’m living now. While I wish she was here to see it..she is worth mentioning.
