We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Lailine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
How could I not? From the moment I could hold a crayon in my tiny hand, I knew that I wanted to do something artistic when I grew up. Even when I was younger, there wasn’t anything that made me so joyful as creating. I would take any excuse to draw, paint, or do something imaginative. The feeling of infinite possibility when I see a blank canvas excites me like nothing else, and the satisfaction of making something new is unmatched. I’ve always loved surrounding myself with beauty, and I continually find it in the magic of the everyday. Seeing that there’s so much the world has to offer, I can’t help but want to contribute.
As someone who always had an affinity towards the fine arts, it’s natural that I found myself drawn to a career in visual design. I absolutely adore what I do & what I’ve built so far, and I couldn’t view myself doing anything else.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an artist & designer based in Roswell, Georgia. After graduating from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2020 with a design degree, I decided to officially begin my artistic practice: Stephanie Art & Design.
Stephanie Art & Design is my creative outlet. A passionate self-taught creator, I have been crafting works of art for as long as I can remember. I enjoy using a variety of media, from drawing & painting to digital & sculpture. Through this exploration, I am so eager to see how my style continues to develop and am excited for future projects. I just love dabbling in anything & everything I can get my hands on!
Visually, I am drawn to soft colors and muted tones. I love finding the balance between abstract & reality, and often mimic Impressionist paintings in my brush strokes. Discovering and combining different media allows me to push the boundaries of what I can do and shapes my artistic sensibilities. I am frequently inspired by nature, magic & whimsy, vintage curiosities, and nostalgia. Recently, I have been focusing on character portraits, plein air paintings, botanical & animal illustration, and integrating the elegant macabre into my work.
While it hasn’t been easy to start this business, the process thus far has been so much fun. Who knows where I’ll be in a week, a month, even next year? It’s taken an abundance of hard work, plus a dash of good luck, to have grown so much.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in Atlanta is a little hidden tea parlour near Candler Park. It was a wonderful study spot in college, and I even had my bridal shower there! It’s called Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party, and it has absolutely captured my heart. The tea is not only phenomenal, but also a portion of their proceeds go towards women’s education in Darjeeling, India. Books & art line the walls, and it truly is one of the coziest places I know. It’s also close to Little Five Points and a short walk from the park, making for a perfect afternoon in Atlanta.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s so many people who have helped me get to where I am today. I’m so grateful for the love & support I’ve received from family, friends, and mentors. My parents especially have always encouraged me to use my imagination and chase my dreams with a passion. My incredible husband, Seth, is my number-one fan & never fails to lift me up when life gets hard. He even helps me with my markets, packing orders, coming up with new ideas/planning, and always looks out for me. And above all, I am eternally thankful for the many, many blessings that have come from God. He is my strength, and I couldn’t have done any of this without Him.
