We had the good fortune of connecting with SpiritTheMogul and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SpiritTheMogul, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was younger, I’ve always dreamed of being highly successful on my own terms as I watched other brilliant, independent business minds in the entertainment industry such as JAY-Z, Quincy Jones, and Master P. My journey to independence was fueled by wise advice I would get from several successful people I was blessed to work with, which was “Never depend too heavily on others. As much as we don’t want to believe it, most people will not believe in your vision as much as you do.” Aside from this advice, I had my own personal experiences in quite a few different circumstances that made me realize not many people will be as invested in your dreams as you are. As a result, I was pushed even more to become an independent business owner and, at the very least, learn the basics of every aspect of the business and industry I’m in.
Wearing many hats isn’t easy, but sometimes it’s required so that no matter what happens with others outside of your control, you can keep the show going as you see fit.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since I can remember, music and writing have always been huge passions of mine. I would always sit in class back in middle and high school and write lyrics, poems, and short stories all throughout class. I knew I had something when I began to win competitions and awards for my writing and rapping. I also loved to read a lot, with my favorite authors being Stephen King & Edgar Allan Poe, so I would try to find ways to incorporate some of the structure of novel storytelling into music. I think what sets me apart from other rappers is most of my inspiration doesn’t even come from other music artists; it comes from artists in general. Those who paint, draw, write books, design fashion, develop architecture, innovate technology, etc. I’m inspired by the world around my in every way, and believe there is art in everyone and everything around us. Fast forward to today, I am one half of the rising rap duo Grade A Loyalty (other half being GA Champ), and I’m working on my first solo music projects “The Awakening” & “The Magician.” I am also very excited about my very first upcoming docuseries “Behind the Dream,” which we plan to bring into full production in 2022. As we move forward, our goal is to expand in many other areas outside of just music and entertainment which we are currently on track of doing. This journey has definitely not been an easy one, but the lessons learned have all contributed to our continued growth and progression. We’ve overcome many challenges by maintaining our faith in God and trusting in the process whole heartedly.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to never pour more into others than they pour into you. There must be a mutual exchange of energy, respect, and overall work contribution in order to properly water those seeds. Giving too much leads to being taken advantage of & only leaves you feeling drained, sometimes to the point of wanting to give up. The imbalance is simply not worth it. Always make sure everyone involved is on the same page before moving forward.
My story has been one of various ups and downs, accomplishments and disappointments, gains and losses. Once I realized everything I thought I needed from others I actually had in me all along, I became unstoppable. If there’s anything I would want the world to know it’s that in the end, it always gets better. Stay true to your vision regardless of outside opinions and pessimists, and you will always win!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in ATL are mostly food joints since I love food! lol so we’d definitely hit up Juicy Crab, Pirate’s Boil, a Mexican restaurant of their choice (too many good ones to name!), Slutty Vegan, or a great soul food joint (again, too many!). If they had a sweet tooth, The Yard Milkshake Bar in Centennial Park will more than satisfy that! If going to the movies, we’d go to Studio Movie Grill or the Movie Tavern. I can’t get enough of those comfortable reclining chairs and food being brought to me while enjoying the movie. I also love nature so we’d for sure go hiking at one of my favorite trails being the Whitewater Creek Trail or Indian Seats At Sawnee in Cumming, GA. Little Five Points and Midtown are also great hang out spots for me, as well as my favorite spiritual shop Phoenix & Dragon.
I’m not really a club goer so I wouldn’t be able to recommend any party type outings, and I know that’s probably strange to most considering I’m a music artist lol!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Huge Shoutout to God & my spirit team first and foremost, my mom and family for their amazing love & support, my late grandmother and biggest personal inspiration Joan Alston-McGhee, as well as my late great aunt Jean Reed. My business partner and one of my best friends GA Champ, and all my other incredibly supportive friends and tribe members, as well as the 1188 Entertainment team and Coleman All Star production crew! Everyone who I have worked with, am currently working with, or will be working with in the future thank you for your time, energy, and belief in the vision! I love you all!
