We had the good fortune of connecting with Small Eyez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Small, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Digital Good Times is a multi disciplinary tech empowerment media company. That’s a long-winded way of saying our entire ethos is based around empowering people by providing access to knowledge, and resources for black people and the underserved in the current explosive tech economy and ecosystem.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Founded in 2014, Digital Good Times is a multidisciplinary Black Tech Empowerment Platform and Media Company. We come to the table with over 15 years of experience in a smorgasbord of high skill sets in the arts, music, community, and tech empowerment spaces. Our competitive advantage comes in our unique ability to be thought leaders in the intersections of art, hip-hop, and tech while sharing those learns and resources with our community through “edutainment”. I call them entertaining “Digital Liberation Tools”. *cough* copyright lol. That’s the ethos of our platform in a nutshell. Scaling and monetizing is the biggest problem most brand/content creators, artists, etc have. That’s been our biggest challenge to date. However, It’s an exciting time for the podcast ecosystem so we are confident in our trajectory and plans for 2021. For example, we are launching a Season based Limited Edition Bespoke Clothing/Goods shop by the end of this year. Aptly called “DigiGOODS”. The biggest lesson or jewel I can give anybody reading this is, add REAL value to whatever you are doing. If you add major value with potent intentionality, as well as having a SHARP focus on building real community it will all work itself out. I believe that wholeheartedly.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
DIGI TRIBE go-to A-Town Spots: Sadly because of the pandemic a lot of our go-to Spaces have shut down or put on hiatus. However gotta show love to two of the best Live Music Collectives in the city of the last 5 years, and that’s WERC Crew & Controllerise. Controllerise & DGT are close collaborators. Pre-pandemic Controllerise was/is the Best Weekly event happening in the city Period. Also want to send love to our Old stomping grounds The Soundtable, Apache, and Music Room, to name a few of the best spaces in Atlanta for Live Music and good vibes that have shut down. I am hopeful that like the phoenix, aka Jean Grey, the Atlanta live music scene will rise again. OnJah 🙏🏾
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I always have to pay respect to my parents for supporting me through my early music career and college years. As a Creative, Artist, Musician, etc people don’t realize how much economics and just life stability impacts or inhibits the creative process and creator themselves mentally and emotionally. The other major people who deserve all the love and praise is Digital Good Times Patron Saints, Tristan McClain (DGT Co-Host and Collaborator), Jack Preston (DGT Co-Host and Collaborator), Ash-Lee Brathwaite (DGT Co-Host), and last but definitely not least Multifaceted Artist, Brand Manager and Founder of APBG Brand Agency Shih Kang. Shih has been our foundation and bedrock since our inception in late 2014. We started recording Digital Good Times in the Back of a Chinese Restaurant in Shih’s Warehouse/Facility and now he has grown to own a full-fledged multi-purpose compound / Brand Agency in Atlanta. Finally I have to give thanks to our Atlanta community & nationwide/global supporters aka the DIGI Tribe. They have grown with us and continue to help us get better and become more relevant and impactful for the Black and Brown Creative, Music, Artist & Tech Communities. It is our honor to continue to grow and help bring tech empowerment to the underserved. Asé
