We had the good fortune of connecting with Siwoo Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Siwoo, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Fully letting go of things that keep me from growing/ being happy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d like to say art reflects the artist’s values and for me, that’s shown through my minimalistic & passionate character. A lot of my personal work tends to be “moody” because I’m inspired by touching experiences. I’ve been working on an album project as a creative director with a recording artist (also one of my dearest friends) that goes by the name “Elhae,” and I’m stoked about everything we’ve been putting a lot of effort into with some of the most talented people I know. As for how I got to where I am in my freelance journey, the idea is pretty simple. Always try your best and don’t give up. But of course, actually following through is the challenging part. Freelancing/ starting your own creative business is an incredibly stressful experience at first especially if you don’t have the funds to sustain yourself, but if you are able to, it’s the most rewarding feeling. My advice for aspiring creatives is to either work for somebody else that is fairly successful in the industry you want to be in or at least work part-time until you’re ready to cross over to full-time with your creative business. Take more risks, invest in yourself, and most importantly, less thinking and more doing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hard to say with this pandemic, but anywhere is good with good company.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The love and encouragement I received from all of my friends and family is the reason I’m able to do what I do. I can’t just pick one.
