We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelby, how do you think about risk?
I think of risk as something dynamic—it’s not just about the probability of failure but also about the potential for discovery, growth, and change. Risk-taking has driven a constant cycle of learning and believing in myself. I took a risk by moving to a new state this year (2024), with no friends and a few family members, which allowed me to become more open and build community. In regards to my career, the move to Atlanta allowed me to flourish personally and professionally in modeling in ways that I couldn’t even imagine. I am grateful for taking that leap of faith.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would consider myself as a creative because as a model, I am creating art with photography. I am painting a picture with the emotions of my face and fluidity of my poses.

I am most proud of my determination. This modeling journey has been years in the making, starting as a child. The fact that I am continuing this path when I’ve had many obstacles that could have deterred me away says a lot about my passion for the career.

I’ve overcome the challenges by trusting myself and putting myself first. I’ve learned that life is a journey, not a race and the outcome that you’re looking for will happen in due time, the right time.

I want the world to know that I am creative, determined but also coachable.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were in town, I would take them to the Beltline. The Beltline has a lot to offer, there are plenty of restaurants and some areas to shop. On a sunny day, the Beltline is perfect for a day out. During the evening, I would recommend a rooftop bar such as Spaceman for a nice grown and sexy vibe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Keenyah Hill. I’ve known her for a short amount of time as my model mentor but in my childhood, I would watch her on American’s Next Top Model. It’s a full circle moment. She has been so helpful in my journey of modeling and I just want to give her thanks!
