We had the good fortune of connecting with Shayla Danyielle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shayla, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Giving up just isn’t in my DNA. It’s never an option for me. Not when it’s something I know I’m meant to do. Being an entrepreneur isn’t for the faint of heart and I knew that coming in. On those hard days when motivation is low, thing that helps keep me going is going back to my reason why for starting Body Like Yours in the first place. Remembering that my business and getting to run it is a gift. Being a nutrition coach isn’t I have to do. It’s something I GET to do. Everyday I wake up with an opportunity to help someone heal and love themselves more. When I remember that, it makes quitting unacceptable.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Body Like Yours is an online fitness and nutrition program where each program is custom designed. Too many diets or fitness programs are a “one-size fits all” or super restrictive programs that don’t allow you to enjoy the things you like. With BLY, the program is tailored to you and your lifestyle as well as your personal tastes. It doesn’t best serve you to follow a plan that you can only adhere to for a short time, but then end up reverting back to old habits. What I’m most passionate about is educating my clients on science-based nutrition. I love showing them that their program doesn’t have to be overly complex or something they dread but instead comprised of things they enjoy. It has not been an easy journey to get here for sure. The hardest part has been work-life balance and juggling 2 jobs while building up my business. The thing that has kept me going has been my desire to help people heal in mind, body and spirit. I’ve learned that anything worth having is worth working for and that the little moments of joy are what make my heart full on the hard days. I want my clients to know that the plan works because I’ve gone through it myself in my own health journey. The goal of Body Like Yours to help my clients navigate through all the fluff in the fitness industry and simply enjoy the life they live.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooo, I’m obsessed with the Battery right now! Even though I’m not super into baseball, there’s so much to do over there. I would for sure take them to my favorite tex-mex spot that has the BEST and freshest salsas you’ll ever have in your life. When I’m not working or working out, I love to get out and get some fresh air so I’d also take them for a walk on the Beltline and then stop over at Jeni’s ice cream for a sweet treat.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow. So many people that we wouldn’t have enough time to go over all of them, lol. I mean I’d have nothing without God for sure. I definitely want to dedicate this to my Dad for showing me how to persevere and what it takes to be a business owner. He’s had his own for over 20 years and I’ve watched him give his everything to it and serve his community without ever asking for anything in return. My mom for being such an incredible example of a woman who can do both. She’s a career woman who is a boss in the workplace and still finds a way to be all about family. Both of them have been an integral part of my growth asa business owner. My brother, Josh, who is a dope photographer and is always down to shoot with me randomly in the middle of the week, haha. My best friends, Amber and Aleshia for always being a listening ear and doing whatever they can to assist me. My friend Jeannelly for even encouraging me to start Body Like Yours in the first place. And most importantly, my Boo, my Honey, the Love of my Life, Michael for always supporting my dreams, always encouraging me when I’m struggling with something and for reminding me everyday of who I am and Whose I am. I couldn’t ask for a better circle.
