We had the good fortune of connecting with Shay Nderi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shay, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define my personal success by the amount of happiness I have for myself and the happiness I share with others. Success should not be of monetary value but rather the expression of joy and laughter. I see success as peace; the ability to relax is a form of success and should not be taken as less than. To be successful in this lifetime is simply to be carefree and without stress, whether it be financially or mentally. Strive for peace!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I work as a registered behavioral therapist (RBT) under the direct supervision of a board-certified behavioral analyst (BCBA). I am currently in school to obtain my BCBA certification and eventually open my own clinic that provides services specifically to children that are between the ages of 8-18 years of age. Within that journey, I have participated in pageants while having autism awareness and research at the forefront. As a Kenyan American, I plan on building the bridge between the two nations into one goal: autism advocacy. This is a need that surpasses my community, and I strive to encourage it to be a nationwide discussion. What is Autism, and what are our next steps, both as caregivers and as individuals? I seek to be a resource to my community and beyond!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were to give a tour of the city I call home, I would visit the Botanical Gardens to gain a perspective that differs from the regular hustle and bustle of the city, offering a more serene environment. I would also recommend visiting my favorite Mediterranean restaurant, Anatolia Cafe, located in downtown Atlanta. They have an amazing food selection as well as customer service that goes beyond the day-to-day routine. Another spot to highlight on the tour would be Argosy, although it is a little east of the downtown regions, it still offers some city glory with its spectacular food and service.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will take this opportunity to thank and appreciate my mom, who has been both my rock and my support system throughout everything that I have done. Whether it is a pageant or a chorus performance, my mom has consistently and persistently shown up and loved me throughout the process. My mom is pretty much my manager in every sense of the word. She has organized events, provided advice, and exceeded every need I had as far as spreading the word goes. Hannah Robi, my mom, is an around-the-clock person. She is a full-time nurse and full-time mom. When she is off the clock as far as a 9-to-5 goes, she is there for a good time. Knowledge flows heavily from this divine woman; she is a fountain of wisdom. That is why my shoutout will always be to my mother!
