We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharvette Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharvette, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
“WAIT! We can’t print this stuff without putting a website address on it!” Those were the words I said in early 2006 while sitting at the kitchen table of my friend Edwinette Moses, where we had spent the past few hours working on business cards, brochures, magnets, and other marketing materials for her budding new business.

I have always had a creative knack and back then dabbled in using Microsoft Publisher to design programs and flyers for church and other things. In addition, my bachelor’s degree in marketing from Virginia Commonwealth University made me a prime resource to help Edwinette create items to advertise and market her business.

As we pulled up VistaPrint.com on the computer to see printing options for the materials we had developed, I had enough foresight to push pause and stop us, because I realized that Edwinette needed to put a WEBSITE address on all of her collateral. We had just one problem – she did not have a website.

So I took it upon myself to learn how to create a simple but “rinky dinky” website. Trust me, it was a humble beginning; but what I did not know was that this action would be the seed that birthed something amazing which was Mitchell Productions.

After I created Edwinette’s pink and green website, I turned to helping my church build its presence on the internet.

People soon started asking me to help them build a website. I created two or three more FREE websites before I stopped and thought… “Don’t people pay for this? Ain’t I suppose to get paid for this?” Yes – I said it just like that, bad English and all! At this point, I realized I had a valid business. People who have problems pay for solutions to their problems. Here I was, creating solutions and enjoying myself in the process. I soon formalized my services and Mitchell Productions, LLC was born. I threw up an advertisement post on MySpace in 2007 and I gained the first two paying customers who did not know me or anyone connected to me. They saw my MySpace post and realized that I had a solution for their problem.

Mitchell Productions has grown and expanded over the years and we no longer offer web design services. We have continued to identify marketing problems that small business owners have and offer solutions to those problems.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We consult, one on one and with group coaching, with women entrepreneurs and a few lucky men to help them get more customers by focusing on their visibility, marketing & branding. In working with us, our clients generate more revenue and increase their brand awareness.

In our signature 12 month Platform Builder® group coaching program, we help high achieving service-based women entrepreneurs position their expertise with a polished visual brand, increase visibility with speaking opportunities, build authority with a published book and convert more customers with content marketing.

Mitchell Productions also produces conferences & retreats, book collaborations, and The Sharvette Mitchell Radio Show.

What sets us apart in the coaching and consulting space is that we also incorporate some “done for you” elements in our programs. This helps to snatch away the excuses for customers and removes roadblocks related to the marketing of their personal brand.

In addition, my past 25 years of corporate America experience in training and development lends well to the coaching space along with my techy mind that is pulled on from my past web design services. This combination is a powerful asset for my clients!

What I am most proud of:

On February 2, 2018, I stepped out into full-time entrepreneurship. What I can tell you for sure… GOD is faithful and I have no regrets! I am so honored to have clients that are amazing leaders and business owners.

They say that entrepreneurship is not for the “faint of heart”. I would like to expand that and say that entrepreneurship is not for the “faint of mind”. Mindset plays a daily role in your entrepreneurial journey.

“Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.” Henry Ford

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, we gotta get something to eat! I love Southern Kitchen Restaurant and Croaker’s Spot Restaurant. Shopping would be on the agenda, and I would take them to Short Pump Towne Center. Lastly, a great movie at CMX CinéBistro might be added to the list!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I must shout out my mom, Bettye Mitchell, and my sister, Kymelie Leonard. They are my top fans and constant supporters of everything that I do. I don’t take their support for granted because everyone does not have the support of family.
