We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannan Slevin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting WellFests originated while working for a SaaS company a decade ago. After a manager’s negative reaction to me expressing a desire for healthier habits amongst for my team, I left my management role to pursue a career in corporate wellness.
I’d dabbled in entrepreneurship prior to leaving my 9-5, having launched a part-time health coaching and yoga / pilates teaching business. The intersection between the different work environments peaked my curiosity around creating macro programming to inspire habitual health practices for people.
Recognizing that most of us we spend the majority of our lives working, I wanted to create a resource that integrated lifestyle into daily workflow, to help people feel their best and reach their highest potentials.
I had a vision on what I wanted the business to be, but serendipitous circumstances have played a huge part in the evolution and growth of WellFests.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
WellFests is a virtual broadcast service for workday wellness that helps employees thrive mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally. Breathing new life into corporate work environments, we integrate inclusive, engaging, and dynamic well-being breaks into daily workflow.
When it comes to health and wellness practices, one size doesn’t fit all. So, offering solutions for different scenarios and personalities is important for us. Similar to a festival featuring various bands and music genres, WellFests broadcasts lineups of different methods and modalities that support sensory play and the different elements of well-being for all walks of life.
Whether you’re looking to increase energy or inspiration, you want to ground and focus, or de-stress and relax, we offer practices that support different aspects of wellness. Sessions meet people where they’re at, in their calendars and inbox and are short in duration to provide a quick refresh of their choice.
What I’m most proud of and excited about with our service is that we’re able to partner with amazing and talented artists, creating a community that celebrates and empowers one another’s gifts. We all offer unique flavors and contributions that play a vital role in the success of the whole. I am proud to be creating a service that celebrates the uniqueness and the commonalities.
Building something from the ground up is not easy and I’m grateful to have an amazing CoFounder in Matt Thomas and advisor in Chris Mittelstaedt. I’m proud of our ability to think outside the box and flow with new ideas when challenges arise.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m excited for my first trip out to Atlanta this summer! My WellFests partner Matt Thomas lives in Atlanta so I’m thrilled to be exploring this awesome city very soon.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shout out to my friend Colleen Courtney. In the early, early ideation phase of WellFests, Colleen would talk through business plans, creative vision, and start-up life with me. As an extremely talented Executive Producer who has built businesses from the ground up, Colleen has been an invaluable support for me.
Her friendship and encouragement through those first few years of entrepreneurship where huge! To this day, she’s always down to talk creative, branding, and business with me. Plus, Colleen was raised in Atlanta and is a beautiful representation of southern heart and spirit.
