We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanelle P and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanelle, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?

The single most important decision I’ve made so far, was to work at one of the most popular waxing salons in my city. While working there, I gained the experience that I would not have been able to receive as quickly on my own.
I learned how to engage with customers, upsell services, recommend products that would be  useful to certain clients and their unique situations, most importantly I learned how to deal with clients that weren’t so amicable.
I’m especially grateful for the experience because it enabled me to grasp a plethora of techniques which is an extreme boost in my confidence whenever it comes to providing wonderful service for my clientele.

When starting a business, most people just jump straight into it, and figure things out on their journey.

However, I decided it was important from me to learn the front and back end of running a successful business.

I’d never discredit my time there because I believe it was an intentional and beautiful stepping stone in the direction of success.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My road to launching Tori’s Haus of Wax was not easy. It took me a year to find a location to wax. However, during that time, I was able to master waxing.

I’m proud of my perseverance. I overcame many obstacles, however, I’m still standing. I am proud of creating my own scrubs, oils and soaps for my clients.

One of the biggest lessons I learned is patience is key! Success won’t happen overnight, you have to put the work in.

Tori’s Haus of Wax, isn’t just waxing. We pride ourselves on fostering a community where women feel comfortable about themselves, while utilizing their aftercare to promote healthy skin!

I’ve met women that were waxing for years, and they’d ask me “what’s exfoliating,” that blew my mind because that’s a basic step after waxing. Exfoliating helps with ingrown bumps and hyperpigmentation which are major concern areas for women. I realized aftercare is just as important as waxing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Brooklyn, NY has become the heart of NY! There’s so many fun things to do! Brunch has become the go to. It’s something about being lit, and making it home by 7 pm.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my family!
